PARIS (Reuters) - Technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) executives gathered in Reuters newsrooms in New York, Hong Kong and Paris this week to talk about trends in their products and industries.
The following quotes come from the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in the three centers in response to the question: "Which segment in the TMT sector do you believe is most under threat?"
HAROLD GODDIJN, CHIEF EXECUTIVE, TOMTOM (TOM2.AS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz):
"I hope what is most under threat is this mobile phone subscription stuff that you pay through the nose if you travel abroad. I hope someone is able to do something about that if the industry can't do it themselves. Some clever chappie must be around to crack this. It must be theirs for the taking."
LEO APOTHEKER, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, SAP (SAPG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz):
"It seems to me a that a business model of charging for time on a fixed line is over. But they have a significant asset that can be turned into something else. You could turn that asset around into something else. It's a data carrier, and they can provide many added services on the same old asset. It is a business process innovation question more than a new product question. People who are in this business really need to figure out a new way how to monetize their assets, otherwise they have a problem."
BERNARD BOURIGEAUD, CHIEF EXECUTIVE, ATOS ORIGIN (ATOS.PA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz):
"I would say the telecoms sector. The telecoms sector is going to be extremely interesting."
ANDREA CUOMO, CHIEF STRATEGIC OFFICER, STMICRO (STM.PA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz): Continued...
