TEHRAN (Reuters) - Hundreds of supporters of Iran's opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi gathered in central Tehran on Thursday to commemorate those killed in the unrest that erupted after the June presidential election, a witness said.

"There is a lot of police and at least 2,000 people have gathered outside Mosala," the witness said.

Iranian authorities turned down a request by opposition leaders to hold a memorial ceremony for the unrest victims on Thursday at Tehran's Grand Mosala, a prayer location where tens of thousands can gather.
