SANTIAGO (Reuters) - Investment in Chile's telecommunications sector will likely hold at last year's levels of around $1.3 billion in 2009, though the sector will grow more slowly because of the global financial crisis, the government said on Friday.
Chile's telecommunications undersecretary Pablo Bello told the Reuters Latin America Investment Summit that the domestic telecoms sector would see only single digit percentage growth this year, after expanding by 10.4 percent in 2008.
Bello added that a fourth player would be operating in Chile's mobile telecoms market, which has limited room for growth given penetration rate approaching 100 percent, by early 2010.
