Oct 30 (Reuters) - Plastic and metal packaging products maker Ball Corp (BLL.N) posted a 67 percent jump in quarterly profit, helped by international metal beverage container growth, and said a stronger U.S. dollar would help reduce year-end net debt. [ID:nWNAB4941]
The company's third-quarter net income was $101.9 million, compared with $60.9 million a year earlier. Results for the latest quarter include a charge of 8 cents a share related to plant closures.
Ball Corp said it expects cash flow of $275 million to $300 million for 2008.
Separately, the company also said it plans to close metal beverage packaging manufacturing plants in Kansas City, Missouri, and Guayama, Puerto Rico, and sees a related charge of about $32 million. [ID:nWNAB4827]
About $28 million of the charge is expected to be recorded in the fourth quarter, with remainder to be recorded in the first quarter of 2009, the company said in a statement. [ID:nPnLA42744]
