FINANCIAL NEWS:

VIETNAM NEWS

-- The State Bank of Vietnam will keep the prime interest rate unchanged at 7 percent in the last quarter ending December to sustain the economic recovery, governor Nguyen Van Giau said.

THANH NIEN

-- The government has sought National Assembly approval for budget deficit of 6.5 percent of the gross domestic product in 2010.

THOI BAO KINH TE VIETNAM

-- Kinh Bac City Development Co KBC.HN has been picked to invest in the $400 million National Conference Center Hotel.

-- Bao Viet Holding BVH.HM and the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Thursday after SCIC bought 3.56 percent stake in the insurance firm in September.

DAU TU

-- The government has approved state-run lender BIDV to take over the $500 million loan from the Asian Development Bank while Vietnam is expected to sign with the Japanese government in early November another loan worth $500 million.

-- Vietnam has expressed its opposition to the U.S. House of Representative's resolution on Internet freedom in Vietnam, saying that information in the resolution was biased and untrue.

QUAN DOI NHAN DAN

-- Typhoon Ketsana killed 172 people, and left damages worth 14.3 trillion dong ($802 million) in 15 central provinces of Vietnam, a damage review report by the government said.

SAIGON GIAI PHONG
