MOSCOW, Aug 10 (Reuters) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy is to visit Moscow this week as part of efforts to end the conflict in Georgia's breakaway South Ossetia region, Russian news agencies quoted the Kremlin press service as saying.

The agencies said agreement on the visit was clinched during Sarkozy's second conversation of the day with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. In Paris, Sarkozy's office said it could not immediately confirm the report.

Sarkozy, current chairman of the European Union, has proposed a three-point plan to end the fighting, including a withdrawal of forces to their previous positions.

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner was flying to Tbilisi on Sunday for talks with Georgia's leaders and was due to fly on to Moscow on Monday. (Reporting by Ron Popeski in Moscow and Tamora Vidaillet in Paris; Editing by Jon Boyle)
