U.S. FDIC adopts rule to boost bank leverage ratio

WASHINGTON, July 9 (Reuters) - The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp on Tuesday adopted a rule to boost the leverage ratio for the country's eight largest banks to 6 percent, twice the level required by international bank capital standards.

It also adopted a rule to introduce the Basel III capital standards in the United States, which had already been adopted by the Federal Reserve last week.
