UPDATE 1-EPA to waive Tex. gasoline standards due hurricane
(Adds details)
NEW YORK, Sept 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Monday it would waive certain quality standards for gasoline in Texas to ensure adequate supply in the wake of Hurricane Gustav.
The move came after the EPA granted a similar waiver to Louisiana last week.
"We recognize the environmental benefits of these fuel programs. However, to minimize or prevent problems with the supply of gasoline, I am today issuing this waiver of the RFG and RVP requirements for the covered areas in Texas that are subject to these standards," EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson said in a letter to the Texas Governor that was obtained by Reuters on Monday.
The waiver will remain in effect through Sept. 10, according to the letter. (Reporting by Richard Valdmanis; Editing by John Picinich)
