SAO PAULO, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Brazil's central bank said it will hold an auction on Monday to buy dollars on the spot foreign exchange market as part of an ongoing effort to boost international reserves.

Shortly after the announcement, the Brazilian real (BRBY) traded at 1.566 per dollar, down 0.26 percent.

The central bank has been buying dollars almost daily since October, helping lift Brazil's reserves to more than $200 billion. (Reporting by Silvio Cascione; Translating by Elzio Barreto editing by Walker Simon)
