NEW YORK, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Barclays Capital hired Charlie Parkhurst as a managing director and a Treasury STRIPS trader, in its ongoing effort to expand its U.S. bond trading business, the firm said on Monday.

Parkhurst will oversee Barclays' business in long-dated U.S. government securities including STRIPS with big institutional investors, said Barclays Capital, the investment bank unit of Barclays Plc (BARC.L).

STRIPS are securities created by separating Treasury bonds' principal and coupon components. They are sold at a steep discount to face value and offer no interest payments.

Based in New York, Parkhurst will report to Ronti Pal, head of U.S. dollar fixed-income linear rates trading, it said.

Prior to joining Barclays, Parkhurst was a partner and propriety rates trader at two hedge fund firms, Archeus Capital Management and Centerlight Capital Management. (Reporting by Richard Leong; Editing by Leslie Adler)
