(Corrects quote in 2nd paragraph to say "when the dollar depreciates" instead of "appreciates")

NEW YORK, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said on Monday that a weaker dollar would have some inflationary impact but that expectations for slower growth may stem price rises.

"One cannot deny that when the dollar depreciates there is some inflationary impact," he said, but added that the impact had been smaller in recent decades. Bernanke was answering an audience question after a speech before the New York Economic Club.

The Fed chief also said that expectations for slower growth would underpin hopes that price gains would moderate.
