(Reuters) - U.S. December auto sales fell 2.9 percent from a year earlier, according to data from auto manufacturers on Thursday. The following are highlights from the largest carmakers in the U.S. market.

* Light vehicle sales down 4.4 percent (319,837 units)
* Year-to-date sales down 6.3 percent
* Inventories at month-end: just over 900,000 units
* Cars/trucks: Cars down 10 percent/light trucks down 2.3 percent
* Retail sales: Retail up 1.5 pct
* Market share: 23 percent
* Key vehicles: Chevrolet Impala down 32 percent, Chevrolet Malibu up 6.7 percent, Chevrolet Silverado up 2.2 percent, Chevrolet Tahoe down 25.6 percent, GMC Sierra up 12.8 percent.
* Incentives: average $3,563 per vehicle, up from $2,228 a year earlier.
