UPDATE 1-Embraer deliveries up in Q2, helped by Phenom 100
* Embraer delivers 56 planes in 2nd quarter
* Deliveries include 13 new Phenom 100 business jets
* Company stands by 2009 delivery forecast of 242 jets (Adds details on deliveries, firm order backlog)
SAO PAULO, July 7 (Reuters) - Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer (EMBR3.SA)(ERJ.N)said on Tuesday it delivered 56 planes in the second quarter, bringing the total for the first six months of the year to 96.
That marked a slight increase over the 52 planes that Embraer delivered in the second quarter of 2008, before its new Phenom 100 business jet took to the skies.
The company said in a statement it delivered 19 business jets in the second quarter -- 13 of them Phenom 100s, which cost about $3 million each and can seat up to eight people.
Embraer delivered 35 commercial jets in the second quarter, most of them from its so-called E-Jet family of regional jets in the 70- to 100-seat niche. It also delivered two defense aircraft.
The company finished the second quarter with a firm order backlog of $19.8 billion, almost unchanged from the end of March but down from $20.7 billion a year ago.
Embraer's statement did not mention its year-end delivery forecast. But a spokesman for the company said it stood by its forecast of 242 aircraft for 2009. (Reporting by Todd Benson and Cesar Bianconi, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
