I would say that what Steve Ballmer says would be irrelevant as they’ve been getting spanked in the mobile market for over two years. The WinMO 7 release is their hail mary pass and based on the UI they showed this week .. I think they may receive the same reception that the Colts got when they got home after the Superbowl. Microsoft may still be king in the corp. operating system and office suite market but not much else. They may not be the best barometer for judging much else.

This line is totally ridiculous:

“Verizon Wireless is offering the brand-new Droid for $199 with a two-year contract. That compares with the original price of $499 or $599, depending on the model, for which AT&T sold the iPhone at its 2007 launch.”

Uhh… no. This is 2010, and that Verizon offer compares with AT&T offering the new iPhone for *surprise*!! $199 with a 2 year contract. Maybe I’m nitpicking, (and I’m not a fanboy of either platform), but that ridiculous comparison caused this article to loose a lot of credibility.

The HTC/Google Nexus One should at least have been mentionned in this article. The Droid is old news in the Tech Industry, and the Nexus One is a milestone for both Google and the mobile industry.
First, Google is now directly competing with Apple ; and it is competing with its partners (Motorola, HTC, SE…) by selling its own phone.
