This claim is completely unbelievable. The editing created a false picture of Zimmerman as a racist right in the middle of a race war being pushed by Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

ANY reported quote or audio file in a riot prone situation like this would be carefully vetted any professional producer.

And NBC, which aired the false quote several times, has not retracted it on air AT ALL. They issued a lame written retraction.

If heads don’t roll on this smear mongering “reporting” then NBC should have its broadcast license pulled.

Anyone really following the story, especially responsible journalists, would have listened to the original 911 call and immediately recognized the forgery put forth by NBC. I heard the call a few days before the NBC incident.

The worrysome thing now is that in addition to the opriginal incident at NBC, the entire organization is complicit with the cover up putting out nonsense explanations. There is little hope of re-establishing their credibility at this point, but firing about 100 editors, producers and their management would be a good start.I’d also like to see them play the entire, unedited 911 tape on the Today show several days in a row. And, indeed, it doesn’t take a bolt of lightning in our butts for us to know it was but one of dozens of examples of racial profiling and senseless murders that are going on every day, many of which are at our own hands as black people.

That does not excuse Zimmerman for what he has done any more than Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris would have been excused for shooting up Columbine High School just because the majority of their victims were their own race.

Unjustifiable homicide is just that and it really shouldn’t be wearing a color. A child is dead for no reason, period; racial matter or no. But the fact that Zimmerman used the words “they always get away” with this is enough to tell me that he took someone else’s faults and sins out on an innocent young man who was doing nothing to him at the time.

If black folk went around shooting up the “perceived enemy” all the time, it would be just as easy for them to gun down white guys in suits and ties. For a lot of young black men, those are the real criminals that no one sees because they get to hide their wrongs and injustices and lies behind their race and their own style of clothing.

But when you look at the history of African Americans in this country and the cultural scars left by 300 years of oppression, it is, frankly, understandable and forgivable. Remember that most black people still think OJ was framed. Of course they think that Trayvon was murdered. One of these events might be passed off as a mistake. All of them added together with weeks of haranguing “commentary” is something else.

This case requires a clear and by the book investigation, any case where a life is lost does. Mr. Zimmerman may well have been in the wrong, we have to do it by the book to get that figured out, people don’t like it but the system exists to theoretically prevent this stuff. It is also possible that the process to issue a permit to carry a pistol in Florida may have been violated given his background, which is another valid topic of discussion. The problem is that the legitimate legal facts, questions and issies are getting lost in the storm of misinformation, outright distortions, and feeding frenzy of political and personal hay making by professional loud mouths in the networks and their allies like Al Sharpton and the other professional race baiters. You have even had people on cable networks saying this past week that Hispanic is not really a race, which I’d like to see someone try and say to the ESL class I’m working with now.

CNN or NBC would be laughed out of a court with this stuff. NBC would be disbarred. They’re losing the facts of this case, and they may end up getting more people killed. Which to the “news” organizations probably would mean more ratings. The facts are the last thing the television “news” organizations want to focus on. They don’t make for as much political leverage and they don’t make for as much ratings. Which is a damn shame as a case where a human life is lost demands such a focus and such a clear investigation.

The real story is that while it is horribly sad that Trayvon was killed, the real tragedy that is not being reported by the media or demagogued by liberals is that 17 African Americans are murdered every day in America and over 15 of them are murdered by other African Americans.

The story is that 16 other black Americans were murdered the same day as Trayvon, 90% of them murdered by other African Americans – and no one cares.

The story is that if President Obama had a son, he would look like the murderers of over 15 of the 17 black Americans that are murdered every single day.

The story of Trayvon, who I wish were still alive and well, is that George Zimmerman was treated by paramedics on-scene for the gash on the back of his head and injuries to his face.

The story is that Florida law, (whether I agree with it or not and I don’t) clearly states that in that situation the police were not legally able to arrest Zimmerman.

The story is that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will make money from Trayvon’s death and from terrorizing Zimmerman, his family, friends and neighbors and people like that old couple that were victims of Spike Lee’s idiocy.

the story is that Sharpton, et al, are not interested in truth or justice – they want chaos and blood because it makes them richer, more “famous” and more powerful.

@johnnyboone It was dark. It was a gated community. There was a rash of robberies in the area. There was a neighborhood watch posted. There was someone in the neighborhood that looked suspicious. Zimmerman followed and then lost Trayvon. This case is over at that point. But then Trayvon stalks Zimmerman and attacks.

You can make this about race all you want. You can act like this world is against you. There are black people on the supreme court, in the presidency, in congress, in all levels of executive management, they lead in sports. You can claim all day long that this case is about race, but it isn’t.

If you REALLY cared about violence against blacks, you would be railing about ALL the crimes against blacks. Several hundred black people have died this year already. What makes you think this one case is the poster child for inequality?

Even if Zimmerman is the biggest racist in the country and he hunted Trayvon like prey and gunned him down in cold blood like one would do a rabid dog, even if that were the case, you’re talking about ONE DEAD KID. What about the hundreds and thousands of dead kids that die in street violence?
Get your priorities straight man. This problem that we’re looking at today is smoke and mirrors to have us look away from our real problems and focus on the non-issues. NBC WANTS you to have a race war. They want the ratings. Don’t feed the monster. Solve the real problems.

The irony of you claiming to know so much of the story that no one knows, and then impugning people that are looking for factual reporting of the story isn’t lost on anyone here.

There’s no evidence that Trayvon was stalked. There’s no evidence that Zimmerman didn’t stop following Trayvon at the point that the dispatcher told him to stop. There’s no evidence that Zimmerman instigated violence. Neither you nor I was there.

HOWEVER, there is AMPLE evidence that Trayvon beat Zimmerman savagely and mercilessly. There is AMPLE evidence that Trayvon was a thug, being suspended from school for drugs, getting caught spraying a school with graffiti, bragging about fighting on social media and a youtube video, and being investigated for stealing jewelry. So why the black community is so quick to label Trayvon a saint, I will never know.

And the story of the media abusing and twisting the story to fit with their agenda is common and lamentable. It dovetails neatly in with the habits that the news media has displayed for years, and I’m not sure why you resist the idea of the two stories co-existing. Even though every single one of those murdered “look like” children President Obama might have, where’s the outrage (real or even manufactured-fake) for them and against their murderers?

We all know the answer: That kind of outrage is simply not permitted.. because over 635 out of the 697 (over 90%) of those African Americans were murdered by other African Americans. Not white people. not Hispanics. Not Jews. Not Asians. Not any of the racialist’s usual scapegoats.

Those murders are Politically-Incorrect. Those murders are inconvenient because the do not support the standard racialist-industry narrative of race relations in America.

To liberals, those murders are not worthy of their faux outrage or even deceptive editing…

Because the ugly truth that over 9 out of 10 of the murders of African Americans are perpetrated by other African Americans can’t be manipulated by the deceptive-edit-liberal media or demagogued for money, votes and power by politicians and racialist-industry moguls like Al Sharpton, white limousine-liberals, Jesse Jackson, President Obama.

johnnyboone, please don’t rely on the network news for information. First, The dispatcher told Zimmerman that they did not need him to follow Trayvon, they did not tell him to stop. The tapes are available online to listen to. Second, according to the evidence at the scene and the eyewitnesses, Zimmerman had stopped following Trayvon and was returning to his car, the car was physically very close to the location where the shooting took place. So, the charge that he stalked Trayvon and killed him is simply not true because the facts don’t support it. Third, Zimmerman was arrested and the prosecutor declined to charge him until he could gather evidence. That is normally done where there is little or no evidence to discount the version of the incidents that the defendant and eyewitnesses give. When a person is not charged with a crime the constitution requires that they be set free until they are charged. The police did what they were supposed to do and they would have done the same if the races had been reversed. The people responsible for making a big deal out of anything but the story are the network news and the race baiters who are trying to make money on what is a tragedy for everyone. Trayvon should not have been killed, but if the grand jury concludes there is too little evidence to support anything except Zimmerman’s version of the events, then it was an unfortunate situation that caused his death and no one should go to jail. There is no need for a show trial just to provide a platform for NBc, CBS, ABC, Sharpton, and Jackson to make money. The outcome would be the same, and the racists would still be screaming that Trayvon was murdered.

It misled the public. It caused protest leaders to become more convinced that the incident was racist in nature. It inflamed protestors in an already hostile atmosphere that could turn violent at any moment. It damaged beyond repair the reputation of the watch person. It helped trigger several instances of innocent persons being harmed, from having to vacate homes to being severely beaten about the head with a hammer. The majority of people will always believe that the edited version was the true and correct version. That will never change. The damage is done. It is not possible to conceive of any plausible explanation other than an agenda-driven attempt by a major news agency or some persons within that agency to wrongly present material facts. When this story first broke the first thing I did was listen to the full audio, found it on AOLhuffington of all places. Glad to hear that the people reporting on this didn’t do the same. In the full audio Zimmerman talks to the 911 dispatcher for about another minute and 40 seconds after they told him he didn’t need to follow the suspect, but that’s never reported either. Zimmerman also says he doesn’t want to give out his full address because he didn’t know where this kid went. Sounds like someone in hot pursuit to me.
And how many news outlets also claim the 911 “help” tape was Martin? If they go onto report, they come to this conclusion because their experts says there is only a 40% chance it is Zimmerman. What?!?!!? if there is a 40% it is someone, and a 60% chance it’s not them, then how does that suddenly get reported that it was not Zimmerman yelling for help. Do your research before you pick sides or shut up and let the adults have a real conversation.

This is ridiculous. There’s no way this was a “mistake,” especially by a “seasoned producer.” Clearly, the edit was done purposefully in order to further the storyline being perpetuated by the mainstream media and the other leftist race-baiters. I already detested NBC but this is just sickening. They really cannot claim that they are journalists.

That’s a blatant lie. It was absolutely deliberate, slanderous, and extremely irresponsible. I was already highly skeptical of all mainstream media, and this incident has only strengthened my skepticism. It’s terrifying that the media can vilify and persecute an innocent American citizen with impunity. If they can do it to Zimmermann, then they can do it to anyone.

Remember, don’t believe everything that is fed to you by the media. They are in it for the money first, ideology second, and the truth a distant third. Question EVERYTHING; be discerning, think for yourself, and always search for the truth.

Not that I watch anything at all on NBC, but I damned sure won’t now. No one with a lick of sense thinks the tape was edited the way it was other than deliberately. Broadcasting the tape after it had been edited the way it was was surely a mistake. The only question remaining: “Was that mistake also deliberate?”

That was the most effective accidental editing of an audio clip I’ve ever heard of.

I work in Television and I know the process every story goes through before it gets on-air. ALL my work MUST pass through “Standards and Practices” whose job is to prevent this exact kind of “spin” or “inaccuracy” (?) Then there’s the slew of Exec Producers and Supervising Producers who must make their mark on the story in order to justify their jobs.

For this “edit” to be an accident or “not deliberate” is an impossibility – ESPECIALLY with this politically and emotionally charged case.

Won’t it be interesting when we find out who the “Seasoned Producer” is? ………

Television isn’t about good programming or accurate story telling anymore, it’s about chasing a specific age demographic so these “News Businesses” will do anything to get an audience.

Remember when CBS wanted to kill 60 minutes? I mean, like…what 18-25 year old kid, like.. watched that program? EEEEWWWWWUUUU!

Like these message boards – just because someone says something doesn’t make that something the truth…but since no one fact checks anymore, “seasoned producers” can get away with ‘crafting’ THEIR stories.

That would be a fitting consequence of lying to the public and unethical journalistic behavior.

Unpartisan – I don’t think racism is dead. There are real people out there that are truly racist and hateful people. But I do agree that those entities you mention have their energies misdirected. I think most of us have prejudices but not when it comes to skin color. It’s more toward attitude. Look at the successful African-Americans in this country, some of the wealthiest people on the planet. What makes them successful? It’s attitude and behaviors. Perhaps some young adults can look, listen and learn and I’m not speaking of kids of color, I mean all kids with their behaviors misdirected toward useless and negative activities. Other comments above I can appreciate – negative news sells. That producer is paid to get the ratings up and we, as a whole, “gobble” it up. When there is a perceived injustice, we all want to stand up. Thank you news media for putting a “fire” beneath us for no other reason that to make money. Who should be ashamed in all this? I say it’s 90pct the media. I don’t think this was about race but who can really answer that?

“This kind of editing is VERY common.”

While it’s true that “editing” is done to condense a long story into a 30 second, 1 minute, or 3 minute piece however…this kind of rationalized, focused, editing MIGHT be common if the producer was right out of journalism school. (Do today’s “journalists” really study ‘journalism’ in school anymore?) The editing in this case was done by a “seasoned producer” who, by definition of that title “Seasoned Producer” definately knew the effect their ‘edit’ would have on the flavor of their piece.

The “season producer” knew it, and everyone who supposedly reviewed the story before it was slated for air was certainly more than smart enough and “seasoned” enough to realize the stick of dynamite wrapped in the story.

I am a journalist and I worked in Network news. I’m embarrassed to say I worked for NBC….but that was back in the 1980′s when there were only three networks, there was no cable and news was still an honorable, professional profession, not the “entertainment business” it is today.

You ask, “SO WHAT IF HE DID SAY HE WAS BLACK?” It’s how he was protrayed as making that statement that’s at issue here not the fact he did. The way the story was “edited” completely changed how that statement was delivered in such a way as to make it seem that Mr. Zimmerman was either profiling or was a racist….a blind person (oops…a “sight challenged person) could easily see those two things are HOT buttons and that special attention should be pains in the accuracy of pushing them.

From my own personal experience inside a network that special attention WAS paid to this “edit” and that’s how the “edit” was made and how that “edited” piece made it to air.
