If Assad (who has a receding hair line) would quit burning down farming villages and executing the farmers maybe there would be more food.

First of all it sucks that the good people of Syria are getting the shaft due to this internal revolution. Food should not ever be a part of the power equation. Not ever. And whether you like Assad or not, I guarantee his mission is not to let his people starve. I still have no flippin clue why this country has so many revolutionary trouble makers in their midst. Once again, just like Libya and Egypt, a stable autocratic government within a strong economy is at risk due to some over zealous freaks without a cause. Really is Egypt any better off today than it was under Mubarek? Nope. Egypt is heading to full Islamic rule which will be ten times worse than Mubarak’s secular autocracy ever was. Wait and see. Extremism will take hold over there and we’re right back to where we started from 10 years ago.

Assad Alarmed? No. He’s sitting in a big air-conditioned mansion looking at the new shoes his wife purchased on amazon.com. If he’s killing, torturing, bombing, kidnapping his own people, what does he care if they starve…

@Slammy – Agreed

Thanks to Reuters for this outstanding piece that shows the precarious state of Syria from an otherwise obscured window.
