Over 26,000 annual deaths for uninsured: report
This number will increase drastically if the companies keep dropping affordable health benefits, and the Republicans continue to chip away at safety nets provided by Medicare and Social Secutity.
First they demonized Union Membership to the point where a lot of people think they are “thugs”, totally forgetting that if it were not for unions we would not have worker safety laws, unemployment laws, child labor laws, minimum wage laws, health insurance benefits at work place, and the list goes on and on.
Then listen to Republican congressmen and women who want to remove social security, medicare, veterans health benefits, etc. They know that first they have to destroy Unions, and are getting a lot of help from the uninformed.
Once we have lost work place health insurance, and all the social safety nets, you can bet your last dime that a lot more people will die without health care. But I guess that is what the Party of the Rich wants to see.
Actually there’s a 2009 Harvard study with more recent data and presumably a more modern methodology:
http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2009/09/new-study-finds-45000-deaths-annually-linked-to-lack-of-health-coverage/
The actual number would appear to be 45,000 deaths a year due to lack of health insurance. This report got a ton of media coverage in the fall of 2009 and was easy to find through Google.
Sadly, the number of premature deaths with health insurance is greater than the .00007% of the country without.
and how many
With Health Insurance
die each year?
And the study counts any lapse of coverage as someone who is uninsured, even if they aquire insurance after 6 – 12 months
This number is meaningless. The question that should be answered in “How many people of the same age group who HAVE health insurance die during the same period of time?” Otherwise this information can be viewed only as misinformation designed for political deceit.
