As large scale government, both State and Federal, has seized control of public education from local neighborhoods, and have both used public schools as social engineering tools rather than as actual schools, their utility has evaporated. In general, the entire Government school system in the USA has failed and failed badly.

If a court has issued a ruling in regard to a school issue, it is clear that that court has killed public education. Over time the weight of the commands from “on high” have resulted in buildings which do one thing but pretend to do something else. Public schools in America do not teach fundamental knowledge and skills. Schools in America implement social policies aimed at changing the nature of the society. This manipulation aspect has driven most “majority” (“white”) urban children from public school systems and has left buildings full of children from poor, often immigrant, usually “minority” (which means “non-white” even if whites are a minority in the community) homes.

Community taxes should support community schools under community control. But they do not. They primarily perform a taxpayer funded day care function for children over 4 years old. They do little else of note, unfortunately. In general they should be abolished, or at least property taxes for “local” schools should be abolished. They largely destroy communities rather than build them.

The story overlooks: Chicago spends $20,000 plus per student a year , nearly twice the national average in the States. Teachers earn near $90,000; administrators, $125,000 upwards to $200,000. And with this kind of money, they can’t get results?

Kick the Federal and State governments out of the education business ……and return to having the local folks run them. Everything the federal government touches turns to crap.
