Amid Petraeus sex scandal, Air Force to release abuse report
It’s a shame. These are the men AND women who work as an unconditional “team” to protect our country. Sexual thoughts should stay at home, even if they aren’t getting any, just forget about it at work. By the way, I’m a man.
The government should provide these men and women with tools for releasing steam (the usual implements) instead of ignoring the issue (like the catholic church). These are human beings with human needs.
I spent 13 years in the Air Force and never saw anything to the extreme described in this article. Yes some females were referred to as ‘bitch’ just as some males were called ‘bastards’, yes there were ‘off-color’ jokes being told but it was usually by a group of guys amongst themselves and were not directed towards any female. The worst pornography I’ve even seen at any work place was the Sports Illustrated ‘Swim Suit Edition’, or, in a few of the maintenance hangers you might find the current calendar from Snap-On Tools.
The events at Lackland AFB between the training instructors and the recruits is being dealt with, and dealt with appropriately, however some of these other complaints are being blown out of proportion.
Just for an idea of how things are; on time I had one of my airmen (a male) in my office getting chewed out for something he had done. My office was at the end of a dead-end hallway and the door was closed. One of the female airmen heard me call him “the stupidest son-of-a-bitch that ever worked for me” and she filed a sexual harassment complaint even though the comment was not directed at her and she had no business being outside my office door in the first place. Luckily the commander agreed with me and all that happened was I was told to watch my language in the future.
The way the military has written the sexual harassment guidelines, it is not what you say or how you say it that matters, it is rather or not someone else feels it is offensive.
DHites, I guess that you can consider yourself lucky. I just read the Complaint and saw the exhibits on Protect Our Defenders and was appalled at the SOLID evidence this TSgt brought forward. The Sgt has one of the best records I have ever seen and it looks to me like she is not just a chick with her nickers in a bind. She gave them from 2008-2012 to fix the problem…they blew her off. She endured YEARS of abuse. God Bless her.
