I love the last paragraph of this article. The Soviet era is now thirty plus years in our rear-view mirror (pun intended), so what is the excuse for the Russian infrastructure being so poor today? Reuters again reporting a totally unbiased report, forgetting that some people read and think, not just read and consume their reporting as facts. Let us not forget that Russia is a corrupt state where only the elite leading party members and crony establishment live well. I am sure all that infrastructure money helped refurbish… vacation homes for the politically connected.

You all have so little understanding of science it is laughable, one event does not signify the change, it is all the events taken together. And one can not dispute the fact, logically at least, that extreme weather events have been on the uptick when compared to historical norms.

USAPragmatist is not thinking scientifically, but is merely parroting a liberal progressive science consensus opinonist. Science is not a consensus-opinion-building operation as lefty useful idiots would have you believe. Science is about facts. There is no global warming outside the normal shifts and cycles, certainly nothing we can affect. It’s just a huge power grab to tax. These people are a fraud. The earth has been here for 4.5 Billion years. Out of that, we have maybe 160 years of good climate data.

Mathematically speaking that is 0.000003555% of available data, in that context – to me, it seems we have woefully little data to base our pride-filled assumptions with.

Man has always thought himself the “master” of science – and that’s one thing you can historically prove – that man, is wrong time and again.

Antarctica was a tropical forest once and everything survived.

@overcast, in essence you are right, but your terminology is correct. We only have about 150 years of data with respect to specific weather events. But we have a much longer history of climate shifts from various places, like tree ring or ice core surveys for example, that can go back millions of years. But of course the resolution is not as fine the farther back we go.
