Marijuana goes legal in Washington state amid mixed messages

We need emergency marijuana legalization and widespread grow sites to prepare for a potential sarin gas attack by terrorists in the U.S. Marijuana is the only antedote that would be safe and could be widely available without any cost at all to the government.

The nice thing about cannabis users is research shows it contributes to lower “serum testosterone levels, impairs sperm production, motility, and viability, disrupts the ovulation cycle, and decreases output of gonadotropic hormones.” In short, we only have to put up with pot heads for now since they can’t reproduce another failed generation.

What a pity…there are thirty-five studies that show that Marijuana does damage to the brain. Get the book or borrow it: Marnificent Mind at Any Age, by Daniel G. Amen, M.D. You can see a picture of what you brain will look like after use of this drug. How stupid can we get!!

As a Psychotherapist for fifty years, owning two Drug Rehab Ranches and working at three treatments centers, I have seen the results before I saw the pictures. There is no argument, so keep your response to facts! Scientific Facts. If you have none do not share your ignorance. Just look it up and see for yourself.

As I sit back here in th privacy of my own home relaxing from a long hard day of caring for the sick and injured, this left leaning moderate takes a tote from his pipe. I am not at all surprised by this reaction. I voted for this law because of all the reasons stated many time before about this benign plant that has helped so many of my patients. Regardless, having weighed the pros and cons of this issue and researching this logically and in depth, it comes down to one simple conclusion. Obama and Congress are wrong. Obviously Obama really doesn’t know what “Forward” means and Congress wants to cut spending by funding a failed war on a weed. Oh well. The last Depression the common folk used alcohol to kill the pain. When these muscle flexing mental midgets that have seats of power send us off the cliff, Marijuana will be the pain killer. It is cheaper anyway when the goverment is involved.

Also, Jose3…do your research. One drop can kill. To suggest that Marijuana would help is really a stretch. Maybe you have smoked too much.

Marijuana is significantly milder, safer and less harmful than alcohol. So why can’t we choose marijuana instead of alcohol?

Orlando, I have some bad news. I’ve smoked weed for years and have reproduced quite successfully – twice. Oh I took LSD also.

Its about time we stopped this war on a harmless plant that you cant even overdose on. It has even been proven to be beneficial in several ways. Even its cousin hemp can save the planet, one acre of hemp can supply more paper than an acre of trees and hemp grows a LOT faster than trees. In an informational society knowledge will triumph over ignorance.

An effective birth control that works for men? I think that would be a good thing. What research are you citing? You are appealing to authority, it would be more compelling if you told us who that is.

For the anti-marijuana people. I didn’t want Obama to win the election…he did, it happened, and I am over it. Legal marijuana, which I am for, passed, it happened, now YOU get over it. There is no recorded death from marijuana anywhere. At one time it was in doctors medicine bags. Zero overdoses. I have doubts about studies that show it is harmful when no one has died from it. No cancer has been linked to marijuana use only, and tobacco smokers who also smoke marijuana show lower cancer that tobacco smokers only.
Now, tobacco kills an est. of 400,000 Americans per year due to cancer and health issues. Why is tobacco legal but marijuana should not be?
The people spoke at the polls and won. That is how our system works.

Isnt this just about people’s rights to determine their own destiny? Lots of things are bad for you but is it up to the government to decide where to draw the line? The people have spoken. The constitution wins again!

Surely one side can concede that pot is harmless in relation to actual harmful drugs like cocaine, heroine, and the plethora of new mood altering pills over the last ten years.

I am in favor of legalizing every single illegal drug, and putting tax money toward treatment of addicts rather than putting them all in jail. Surely, marijuana doesn’t even rate on the scale of things that need tax money put toward treating addicts.

Good, it is about time, and when it comes to abuse of anything it is up to the person, look at all the people who abuse alcohol driving drunk, spending money on drink instead of bills, getting in fights with wife and children, can’t work because they get up drunk, I had rather be around someone who smokes pot then drinks.and all the money spent on putting someone in jail over pot, that has always been beyond stupid but if the government does not have their greedy hands on it they don’t want people doing it, it is about time people took a stand on something that No government has Any right to say you can not smoke.

You have “seen” images of the brain before and after pot use. Bolognia, we dont even have that techology. Are you talking MRI, PET, SPECT x ray. None of these technologies have proven marijuana harms the brain, in fact, it protect the brain. Marijuana is the best preventative and therapetic medicine for prostate cancer and many other cancers. As a therapist, you should leave the science to the big boys. Your opinion is unsubstantiated and shows your incopetence and pre-meditated agenda.

I agree with the other comments of how marijuana is mentally and physically damaging. We need laws to keep people from harming themselves. I am so upset about this that I had to pound a fifth of whiskey, smoke two packs of cigarettes and take half a box of Benadryl washed down with a corn syrup laced beverage to help me relax. We need to wake up and realize that we are all too dumb to make decisions for ourselves. If it wasn’t for laws I wouldn’t be taking such good care of myself.

This is an interesting experiment on many levels. I hope it works out for the taxpayers. If it works for Washington, it may spread. If not, the prohibition will continue another 30 years.

New, and can’t see how to reply, but to thinking888 who cites 35 studies claiming pot is bad for you. Well, not sure I agree with that, but to back and alcohol are bad for you too. So what’s your point.

I wish you could ‘like’ comments on here. They are stellar. Especially yesm’s. Dying laughing. And I don’t even smoke anymore. Being a non-smoker, but having indulged recreationally years ago in college, I can assure you that we had just as much fun sitting at home smoking and laughing at all of the idiots that went to the bar, wasted $100 in just one night and ended up in jail with a DUI or worse, the guy I knew who hit and killed someone while driving home wasted from a party. How has that been legal for so long but those of us sitting happily and peacefully enjoying each other’s company something that we had to do with fear of jail time? I think of my nights out drinking and then cabbing it home, waking up with a hangover the next day and skipping class and compare it to the nights my group would come together, grill out, smoke, jam to some music, discuss some politics or current events or a lot of times a thesis for a paper and go to sleep, waking up the next morning having had the most relaxing evening ever instead of a hangover with many ideas for school papers or having a great tune stuck in my head that I’d never heard until the night before, and I wonder why for so long this has been considered more dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes. Really? Don’t get me wrong, alcohol is a lot of fun every now and then but the toll it takes on my body the following day or two and in the long run scares me more than it did feeling slightly sleepy the day after smoking a few bowls.

You know, it’s incredible what we get excited about. It’s not feeding a starving child or lifting up someone in need, it’s getting high smoking dope and having sex with someone of the same gender.

I live in WA. We settled it-left and right! What else can you say that about these days? With pot we can live in peace-that IS the point.

Twenty million Marijuana users have spent months in jail; many have been given long prison sentences and had their employment possibilities ended. Decriminalizing the weed would cause massive pink slips issued to the brave and honest cops who stop and frisk pot smoking youngsters. Three hundred thousand hard working law enforcement officers would lose their jobs due to legalization, but they should be the first hired helping disadvantaged minorities get back on track.

WRONG! No one in the history of earth has become deathly ill as a direct result of recreational pot usage. Booze on the other hand is proven to destroy lives if it is abused. All things in moderation seems to be key. Keep uncle Sam out of our private lives. Besides how is the “war on drugs” not prohibition? thank goodness now the police can focus on real crime!

We have had 3 Presidents in a row that admit to smoking marijuana and the last 2 did cocaine. Went to Ivy league schools, and held the highest office possible. I am sure as a psychotherapist you know that alchohol negatively effects every single organ in your body, yet it is legal. Please spare us of your I know what’s right for you attitude. You have not, and never will reach the Presidency like our current pot head in chief has.

The downfall of America was when the religous right took over and started eroding our liberty. Congratulations, you have locked up a higher percentage of the population for no reason other than not abiding by your moral standing. It is true 75 percent of all our prisoners are small time drug offenders.
Cops dont want to go after real criminals.
They shoot back.
Its much easier to catch a couple of kids burning one in the park.

Clearly the only thing You think about is how You pesonally know what is best for everyone else. If You dont like smoking pot. Dont do it.
I could show you just as many studies showing how weed is beneficial.
What gives You, Me or anyone else the right to control someone elses behavior.
Name one documented case of someone dying from marijuana overdose, or marijauna poisoning.
Psychotherapist .. So do You Mind Meld with Your patients and Mentally fix any psychotic thoughts they may be having.
Or Do You just listen to people who were mentally unstable long before they ever smoked their first joint.
More likely people forced to consult You by some court order.
Who tell You what You want to hear just to live up to their probation / Parole obligations.
