Michigan governor reviewing new gun bill; stance unclear

I suppose the NRA will state that if the 5 year olds carried guns, they could have protected themselves in todays killings. There has to be some controls on weapons or there will be more and more of these massacres.

In my little community in America, way down in the Deep South, I read the comments in the local newspaper about the shooting in CT today. The predominant opinions go something like this, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, “freedom, the Constitution…”, “big government takeover…”, “stock up on ammo…”.

As we see this country paralyzed – the economy, taxes, fiscal cliff, the safety net, the environment, basic security, inequality, poverty – many of us seem to be unable to recognize the most basic principles necessary to affirm life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It’s become a kind of crazy, Kamikaze world, where freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.

And if a gun wasn’t used this sick person could have just as easily used a knife like the man in China who just knifed 20 something children. When you start talking about taking peoples rights to bear arms which is a fundamental right of Americans to protect themselves whether it be from an intruder of your home, to the tyranny of government you open yourselves to much more vile abuse on a much wider scale as a nation than what just happened here.

No one needs more than one small caliber non-automatic handgun for self defense.
Ban all other weapons.
If a person can prove they hunt on a regular basis, they should be allowed to own just one, non-automatic rifle, under severe restrictions.
Tax weapons heavily.
Ban advertising for weapons, same as with tobacco.
Stop this addiction to firearms – It’s become a cult.
