Egypt's constitution seen passing in referendum

It is difficult to understand, why the people of Egypt would allow a referendum that only requires a 50% majority. It is like asking for polorization. Of the first vote, turnout was estimated at about 35%, of that 35% only 57% voted yes. So just over one half of one third of the voters want this constitution (So far).

Surely there is educated inteligent people capable of so much more in this country… isn’t there? If there is, then how was this put together?

I always thought, that no matter who rules Egypt, even if it is hostile to the west or not, at least being democratic, the country would put an ‘honest face’ forward, being that it is representative. Now it seems all the nay sayers were right, the Islamists,if they really think this is the way to go forward, have no interest in sharing power with all the people of Egypt. Just themselves and Islam…

This truly is fast becoming the ‘Arab Winter’. Even if this term was coined by the ‘Arab Spring’s’ detractors, it still looks set to be true. It seems the Arabs still have a long way to go to enlightenment. One wonders if it will even be in this century.

Its inevitable. The middle east is dominated by uneducated people who are used by Dictators to gain power and keep it. This has nothing to do with Religion and everything to do with ideology and power.

@Free_Pacific & Kenradke11, you people are dillusional. What, you don’t like who the Egyptian people voted for?? Nobody cares, especially people in the middle east. Nobody cares for America’s opinion in the world. We have supported all of the worst dictatorships for too long. Our chickens have come to roost!!!

And wait till you see the type of Wahhabi government that will take power once Assad falls. Their first order of business will be to kill all of the Christians, Jews, Shiites, and all other minorities!!!

Tamim Elyan, sir only Ignorant journalists use the word Islamists when referring to Muslims or an Islamic demonstration. In your case above, the correct designation is to use the word “Islamic event”, and not “Islamist event” .

@KyleDexter

Sorry, what part of what I wrote is ‘delussional’?

Normally I don’t care for events in North Africa or the middle east, but the home Egyptians are building for themselves is quite perplexing.

Also, if you are American, don’t bother replying, as according to you, people around the world (Like myself, who is not American), don’t care what Americans think. So I will be happy to apply that in your case to keep you happy and reinforce your beliefs.
