Pro-marijuana campaign looks ahead after 2012 victories
Alot more safer then alcohol, just don’t drive while under the influence of it. and it does have medical benefits. it helps my bacterial meningitis, restless body syndrome related problems that have developed, gotten worse and worse year every year
Pot is well on the way to being nationally legal under strict regulation and taxation. The only question is how much money the opposition is willing to waste to fight it. The money could be better spent elsewhere, stupids.
it’s about time, this law has created more crime than it fights, it’s provided funds for gangs and cartels, hopefully now it can help pay off state budgets and provide schools and medical care. it has always been an un-American law and has ruined more lives than the drug itself ever could.
I’m expecting complete legalization by 2020.
Is cannabis completely harmless? Maybe, and maybe not. The question is, is cannabis less harmful than every other substance out there? YES IT IS! And, is alcohol more harmful than almost any other drug out there, based on the number of people it kills? YES IT IS, WITHOUT A DOUBT!
How does locking up the highest percentage of our population of all the countries in the entire world help solve our very real social issues? Other, of course, than the issue of doing as you are told without question? Of course it does not.
Let the police chiefs focus on physically violent interpersonal crime rather than “sinful acts” they personally dislike. If our law enforcement would simply do this, our outsized prison population would shrink dramatically. We should free all current prisoners whose entry into prison was based on marijuana prohibition and who have not been convicted of a crime of physical, interpersonal violence.
Asking police chiefs if something should be legalized is just like asking a cabbie if taxis should be outlawed. They are partisans, not public servants.
The genie is out of the bottle and no way it’s going back in but the feds may try.
I hope that lessons have been learnt from the very professional efforts of the campaigns in Colorado and Washington.
Several states appear to be in a good position to mount a ballot initiative in the coming election, so start work now.
The two state wins have created a huge wave of energy and that momentum should not be missed.
It’s quite possible that another two states will legalize in 2014 and maybe even one or two will do it legislatively before then.
There is also the distinct possibility that other nations will have legalized by then, Uruguay being the first. So 2014 will be a much more advanced situation than we have now. People are waking up and want solutions to the poverty and violence they are forced to deal with as a result of this insane war.
So don’t miss the wave of reform sweeping the world.
This is the time for the Marijuana Spring.
We need to get this behind us so we can move on with hemp fibers for textiles and hemp hurds for paper. I am Oregon and Colorado are looking really good for these start ups – lots of water and land and reasonable laws that don’t make natural resources illegal to possess because some people light it on fire and inhale the smoke.
Looks like the tobacco companies (the deep pockets backing this) have found their next addictive killer cash cow. Lung cancer from pot? You had better believe it. I had a friend who died from cancer from smoking pot. Smoking pot is “smoking”, unless you are special needs.
I just wish pot smoking men would wear bras, they look nasty with “man boobs” (a known side effect of pot smoking).
Society will be enhanced by not locking up a group of people that continue to be unreasonably persecuted by an out of touch federal government and agencies such as the California Police Chiefs Association. By 2014 it is likely that there will be figures to show that teen use is not increased in Colorado or Washington as it has not increased in entire countries where they have legalized. This nonproductive prohibition has been far worse in terms of costs to society than that of alcohol prohibition which also failed miserably.
As a taxation supporter, the Feds need to legalize marijuana asap and force states to legalize it. Then it can be regulated and taxed exactly like tobacco. Cigarettes are about $7-$9 a pack in some states so marijuana could be the same price. Think of the tax revenue! Legalize it now!
Do you remember the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937? And then how T. Leary was accused of a crime while in possession of Marijuana? Marijuana WAS legal. It was taxed. And then Congress superseded it with the Controlled Substances Act in 1937. Except Congress has no control over superseding state controlled acts. So all of your discussion is moot.
Maybe instead of teasing us, you could also make a national or municipal, or state – statement, and legalize it. Discussing it with the citizens, year after year, aggregating the exact same results each time, you would assume it would be legal already. Especially after exposing Obama as a pot head.
California Police Chiefs Association spokesman says:
>>>”I have yet to hear a legalization proponent talk about how society will be enhanced, how the real social problems facing our country will be improved by legalizing yet another substance that compromises people’s five senses.”
SURE you haven’t.
The issue is not how good (or bad) marijuana is, but how horrible is the monstrously destructive, counter-productive, freedom-strangling FRAUD of marijuana prohibition.
More than 800,000 innocent Americans are arrested for simple marijuana possession each year and made second-class citizens FOR LIFE. They will forever face huge obstacles to decent employment, education, travel, housing, government benefits, and will always go into court with one strike against them. They can even have their CHILDREN taken away.
20 million Americans are now locked away in this very un-American sub-class. That has a horrible effect on the whole country, being an incredible waste of human potential.
The fraudulent prohibition has never accomplished even one positive thing. It has ONLY caused vast amounts of crime, corruption, violence, death and the severe diminishment of EVERYONE’S freedom. There is NO domestic issue more important than ending what is essentially the American Inquisition.
One of the many side benefits of ending this insane witch-hunt is it will restore a great degree of honesty to the police.
Hemp grew everyone in America from the beginning. Our founding fathers considered it one of the greatest assets to the country. It was the main source of paper and thr first constitution was drafted on hemp papaer. Henry Ford’s firts car was made out of hemp and designed to run on hemp alcohol.
Hemp seeds are the best feed for cows and chickens and can replace corn with a far superior yield per acre. Hemp also produces far superior paper per acre and can replace trees and save forests. It yields the highest amount of ethonal per sqaure acre than any other plant in the world. Hemp grows everywhere in most climates and soil.
Cannibus the cousin of hemp has been proven to be the best natural cancer fighting drug ever found. New studies show if you just juice the fresh plant you can take in large doses of THC without getting high becuase you dont chemically alter it by heating. Large doses of THC is what kills cancer, boosts your immune system, and can heal many ailments. THC oil (Has Oil) has been show to cure skin cancers topically as proven in the documentary Pheonix Tears by Rick Simpson.
All of the benefits without the High, but if you chose to get High it should be your right as a citizen to do whatever you want to your own body. That’s true freedom. Our founders fathers would think our Government is insane for making it illegal.
If marijuana it was freshly discovered in the Amazon jungle and no one knew about it and history of disinformation, marijuan would be paraded as a miracle plant.
Unfortunatly it undermines huge Pharma companies that make milloins off of managing symptoms and not curing them. It also undermines wood, corn, oil, and a bunch of other industies. This is who were really fighting against and they have the politicians in Washington in there back hand.
We need to end the information war. Spread the good news about marijuana to everyone you know and vote for pro legalization politicians.
Unfortunately
What I meant to say is we need to WIN the information war and vote for pro legalization politicians. We need to spread more good news about marijuana.
You can find the history of hemp and it’s uses anywhere on the internet. If your interested in cancer information you can find some good info on cancertruth.net, phoenixtears.ca, and cannibusinternational.org.
american guy-
Man boobs are excess fat deposits and are statistically linked to excessive donut consumption, and located just above , often resting upon, rotund abdomens, and not liked to pot. You think Gringrich is lights up? With thinking like yours, you are probably waiting for some red state to legalize meth production in home bathtubs like we find all over the American South. Man boobs are much more prevalent in the red states that restrict pot because they are the obese ones, at least when facts are considered. Good luck finding a large percent of man boobs in CO or WA, because statistically, these are some of US’s healthiest populations. The only part of your statement supported by fact is that man boobs are unsightly.
I hope they allow some “new money” into the arena, should this become reality . My fears are, the “old money crew”. Tabacco and Booze merchants will, endorsed by congress, just begin pushing, weed .
Don’t matter what the states want – Obama’s on Pharma’s payroll. There is no bigger threat to Opiate based painkillers and the massive profits from them – than pot.
Pharma cannot compete with Pot. ALL painkillers they make you can overdose on – no so with pot in it’s natural form.
Opiate based painkillers are FAR FAR FAR FAR more addictive that pot, considering pot’s only psychologial.
Plus, pot can be grow by anyone with chronic/serious pain and they won’t have to bow down, cash in hand, at the opiate pushers in pharma.
John Lovell has yet to hear how marijuana legalization is a good thing because John Lovell isn’t listening. Mr. Lovell gets paid to fight legalization, not to make open-minded decisions!
But if you’re reading this John then think about this: Marijuana is a significantly milder, safer and less addictive alternative to alcohol, and we could greatly reduce the amount of harm and addiction in society by letting people choose marijuana instead of alcohol.
According to the CDC, alcohol kills 80,000 people every year in the U.S. while marijuana kills NONE. And marijuana has repeatedly been proven to NOT cause cancer, heart disease, brain damage, liver disease, emphysema, or any other significant health issue, and its addiction potential is about on par with coffee.
And one last thing John, how is the safety of our children improved by arresting 800,000 of them every year for nothing more insidious than possessing a herb that’s safer than coffee? We need to put the safety of our CHILDREN first and legalize marijuana like wine!
it’s just a matter of time before it’s legal everywhere in the US. Democracy will win, after all isn’t that what we fought for in Iraq..democracy??
Legalize it, tax it
It’s sad to see all this misinformation still out there. I have been a regular pot smoker for 25 years, I hold down a very nice technical job, have a beautiful wife and daughter, I am 6’2 180lbs, no man boobs, I can reason and handle high stress situations, I’m just as on the ball, if not more than a lot of people. its lies, marijuana is not harmless, but the laws in place around it now are much more harmful than it ever could be.
americanguy – I had a grandfather who died of lung cancer. He didn’t smoke. Cancer is funny like that. Anecdotal evidence is worse than no evidence.
Regardless, the difference I saw in my mother as she succumbed to her cancer was night and day. No appetite, depressed, nauseous, after all the chemo. All counteracted by a doob. Get her a buzz, and she’d start to talk, laugh, eat, and at least temporarily not dwell on her situation. Good medicine. It may not cure cancer, but hell, neither does chemo.
