“whether the former Nebraska senator strongly supports U.S. ally Israel.”

That would be a big solid “NO”.

He doesn’t support Israel at all.

No haggle over Hagel. Smart bipartisan choice by the Prez. He is a hawk, which the GOP loves. It doesn’t matter what Chuck’s preferences are. He’ll be a team player and do what he is told, like Leon.

Ther eis no perfect candidate. Confirm him. He is the best man for the job, and that should come first.

Why is it necessary for a cabinet member to support an apartheid state like Israel in order to be confirmed?

Just like Republican Governor Chris Christie said, the republicans in Congress have to politicize every event in order to cause as much damage to this country as they can. You would think the “Fiscal Cliff” vote would have embarrassed them enough. The public is watching.

I was hoping and praying that he gets the job. Is it not about time for US politicians to start putting interests of American people rather that of Israelis in first place.

Israel already receives more U.S. aid than any other country, much of which they waste on their quixotic attempt to illegally colonize the Occupied West Bank. Now they want to choose our ‘Defense’ Secretary too. Its long past the time for Israel to learn to stand on its own, negotiate sensible peace agreements with its neighbors (backed by security guarantees by the world community) and get out of the Occupied Territories. During times of budget crises this shouldn’t even be a discussion, it should be over and done.

Since when is Israel our 51st state? Choices should be made on our interest not Israel. Frankly we should be demanding Israel pull out of the west bank, if not treat them like we did when Saddam invaded Kuwait.

I was in the Navy off Israel during the 67 war. People forget Israel attacked the Arabs first. Don’t forget the Liberty, a US communication ship Israel attacked and killed 27 Americans. They tried to say it was an accident, but in reality they didn’t want us to over hear their communications.

My comment was about the typical misleading Rueters Headline that suggested that Hagel was at least somewhat a supporter of Israel.

That’s all.

Israel can defend itself even if the current administration turns its back on it.

From Wiki:

“Hagel married Lilibet Ziller in April 1985. The couple live with their daughter, Allyn, and son, Ziller, in McLean, Virginia. The family has one dog, Figgie, a Portuguese water dog who was trained by Dawn Sylvia-Stasiewicz, the same dog trainer who trained the Obama Family’s dog, Bo, as well as Ted Kennedy’s dogs.”

There you have it folks, they share the same dog trainer.

“Members of Congress are eligible for a pension at age 62 if they have completed at least five years of service. They are eligible for a pension at age 50 if they have completed 20 years of service, or at any age after completing 25 years of service. The amount of the pension depends on years of service and the average of the highest three years of salary. By law, the starting amount of a member’s retirement annuity may not exceed 80 percent of his or her final salary.”

Sen. Hagel served two 6 year terms and then retired off to greener pastures.

Anyone who puts the interests of another country ahead of their own is a traitor. If we don’t have money for Sandy victims or to keep our social programs solvent then we definitely don’t have money for Israel or to maintain an army that is at least 3 times more than we could possibly need. Anyone who can bring some sanity to our defense budget has got my support.
