The devastating social stigma of rape in India must only apply to women or rapists would experience an equal stigma that would curtail rape. Nothing like punishing the victim. How backward and barbaric is that?

They gang rape and murder a young woman and now want to make a deal?
They must think they are in America.

Just throw them to the crowd. Enough with these idiot criminals all over the world; just thinking they can get away with anything.

I don’t get how they always are so concerned about the safety of the criminals but where was their concern about safety of the innocent citizens? The criminals are much more protected.

@americanguy: That was well said. Only in America do the guilty have more rights than the victims.

This horrific crime occurred in India – a country where women have traditionally been regarded as property until very recently. I recommend reading some of the articles in Indian papers, like the Hindu to get an understanding of the mindset of the men in the country and the number of rapes that occur daily in the larger cities. This was tragic and the police response was, can we say “lacking” as to the “crime” committed against this young woman. Thankfully, the women of India, along with with the younger, educated males of India are demanding justice for this innocent victim, but also demanding laws that protect the women of India, re-training of the male dominated police force, better emergency response, enact something like our “Good Samaritan” laws promoting awareness to the general public that they can and should help others without reprisals from the police (this victim and her male friend laid naked and bleeding on a sidewalk for almost an hour before anyone helped them). I hope that justice is done with these animals, but my bigger hope is that the Indian government now listens to the magnitude of anger and protests that their citizens are screaming. Please keep screaming, India.

Give them defence, but only in a proforma sense. I don’t think there is lawyer alive that could absolve them.
They deserve more then death but you can at least put on a fa├žade of civil justice and just put them down anyway.

No one seems to be concerned much about the 171/2 yr old Mohammed Afroz, he was the one who lured the couple in the bus on false pretext, hit the girl on the head with rod, raped her twice once when she was unconscious, threw them outside the bus and was amongst the most agressive of the rapists, he was the one who abused her with the rod.yet he is in a juvenile home which is not really behind bars, and will be let off in a few years and he has about 6 more months till he turns 18, all the time to do over again and still be untouchable as he is a ‘minor’ . What a shame.
