You cannot improve fuel efficiency by using a turbocharged engine. The engine is not much lighter due to its heavier construction. Turbocharging actually decreases fuel efficiency – basic engineering!!

Plus the narrow transit looks like it would tip over around a turn with ladders & pic’s loaded on it. The US is not Europe, we don’t want skinny vans, getting laughed at parking next to our F- series brethren.

Ford’s biggest seller on the F150 is their Ecoboost Turbocharged V6, in place of a larger V8.

If you look, other manufacturers are doing it as well. BMW for example no longer offers NA V10s on the M5/M6, instead opting for smaller fuel efficient Turbo V8s.

Essentially they want to make the power of the larger N.A. motor, while improving mpg. You do that by turbocharging a smaller motor.
