Merkel suffers setback months before federal vote

Germany should abandon Merkel and her austerity debacle. If not, it will experience what Japan has endured now for over two decades, and continue to suppress global economic activity and growth.

Once again Germany demonstrates how democracy works.

Merkel is unshakeable as survival strategist. She sees herself as Mother of the Nation, a firm rock in turbulent political waters. In a pinch she would be prepared to form a coalition with the Right or with the Left, so long as she remains in the Centre.
