Are we really that naive that we think we can keep playing hide and seek with Nature and not figure out what it’s trying to tell us?

The time has come to press the RESTART button on every single aspect of human relations to create a sustainable environment for us to exist in.

Let’s wake up and create the kind of society we want our kids to grow up in.

and, just like hurricane Sandy’s aftermath the rest of the world will have to put up with another 6 months wort of media sob stories about how the tough as nails New Yorkers and Bostonians were left hanging by the federal government and “nobody came to help them in their time of need, blah, blah, blah, whaa, whaa, quit yur whining already, you “CHOOSE” to live on or near the coast, it has it’s advantages and disadvantages, put on your big boy panties and go shovel and move on…

I call is “media piling on”.
Now every single time it snows, we will get drama headlines like it is the end of the world.
“another large winter storm building across the Northern Plains was expected to leave a foot of snow and bring high winds from Colorado to central Minnesota into Monday”
A foot of snow? In Colorado and Minnesota? In the winter?
And if someone dies of old age while it snows, it will be a “storm death” and the snowfall will be a “killer storm”. Then the body bag count will start.
Be afraid, be very afraid! Killer snow is destorying the US! It has never snowed before! Global warming causing snow at ski resorts! Freezing ice fishing lakes in Minnesota! Capping mountains with white snow!
OH, THE HUMANITY!

@GAPETERSON1958, spoken like a true mountain man who don’t need no guv’r'ment or so-sahytee to survive in the wild. Oops, but your use of an electronic device connected to the internet tells me you probably live in a populated area and probably benefit from public services in a lot of ways.

What exactly do you have against people who want their tax dollars used for a little outside help to get through desperate times when the homes they worked hard to build are swept away by nature?

People need to get smart. Most weather related deaths seem to be due to unpreparedness. Car exhaust, elderly shoveling, busy drivers in a hurry. Keep a week or a month’s supply of food and water, candles & batteries. When Bloomberg warned about Sandy, he heard a lot of poo-poo from the obstinate locals. Many are now whining, where’s MY bailout or where’s FEMA! The USA is broke, go figure it out.
Pitch in with your neighbors, repair one home at a time. We did in Iowa, after the 2008 floods.

To them, global warming is “proven” whenever it’s too hot, too cold, too rainy, too dry, too cloudy, too cloudless, too snowy, too foggy, too windy, not windy enough, too many hurricanes, not enough hurricanes, etc, etc. It truly is a religious cult that requires GREAT FAITH to believe in it!

Even their Pope, Al Gore, sincerely knows man-made global warming is a fraud so he sold his leftist network “Current TV” to the oil sheiks and fossil fuel manufacturers at Al Jazeera last month!

Pope_Algore, global warming refers to a rise in average world temperatures, due to the greenhouse effect of certain gaseous compounds in the atmosphere.

Now, once these seemingly miniscule temperature changes become sufficient to affect polar ice sheets, the effects on ocean currents and the atmosphere can become unexpectedly greater, more complex and harder to predict.

In other words, there is a lot more going on in the atmosphere than simplistic “more CO2 equals warmer everywhere.” Weather extremes becoming more common seems to be what “global warming” really is about.

Sandy was a different story – it was the biggest storm to hit the Eastern seaboard – bigger than Katrina. All the extra batteries in the world won’t help when you’re property is under water and your house is non-existent. FEMA should be leveraged in those situations and people have a right to expect a disaster relief organization out of their government. It’s not a ridiculous notion or “extra bells and whistles” extravagance we can’t afford. This is one of the areas of necessity that government should exist for.

If you want to strand your fellow citizens because of your perception that the US, the largest economy in the world with one of the highest standards of living is broke, that’s your moral imperative. But don’t patronize people who’s lives were devastated by telling them they should have had extra batteries as their property is now 30-40 yards under the surf.

“The USA is broke, go figure it out.
Pitch in with your neighbors, repair one home at a time. We did in Iowa, after the 2008 floods.

WAIT – FEMA didn’t get involved with relief and there was no government aid during the Iowa flood and Iowa was all on its own?? That sounds too unbelievable to be true. Let me google it…

Fact: The US Government and FEMA did get involved and Iowans were recipients of disaster relief and FEMA got high marks for being leveraged appropriately:

Your argument may have been more persuasive if you didn’t solely rely on cherry picked facts.

“Remember: G-d helps those who help themselves.”

G-d does help those who helps themselves, but I hope he also holds others in high esteem who help themselves AND others. Supporting our national disaster relief organization and not knocking it IS the least you can do – I mean even your state was a recipient of its services when disaster struck. But thanks for for stereotyping all those affected by Hurricane Sandy as government welfare recipients who didn’t get up the next day and start putting their lives together in the aftermath and are just a bunch of money grubbers to the US taxpayers. I guess only in Iowa no government aid is ever given out and all neighbors work together holding hands building its state from scratch – the rest of us non-Iowans are just Godless idiots without batteries who can’t help ourselves. I’m sure G-d agrees with your assessment.

That’s right, all the scientific data in the world – specifically studying the receding poles and warming oceans can’t even stand to measure against your well thought out and mind blowing post! I stand corrected, throwing billions of tons of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere a year won’t have a negative impact on our environment! We need to live free, which means we all need to conform and own SUVs and big toys that may cost future generations untold misery. Thanks for setting me straight! I may as well just litter everywhere and track mud in your house too! It’s my right as a new initiate into the big picture conservative in-crowd to do whatever I want regardless of consequences!
