Agree, ralphos. Potential disasters waiting to happen and for NO reason. This 12 year old needs supervision. Perhaps he’ll get it in juvenile hall.

Sometimes I read comments from other people and shake my head. A 12 year old does not need to spend 6 years in a juvenile hall for a prank. Was what he did wrong? The answer is undeniably, yes! Should he be punished for 6 years? NO. It is my hope that his punishment will include sitting in a call center and witnessing firsthand what real calls to the center involve and possibly some community service.

Maybe not juvie for 6 years because he’d only learn how to do more serious mischief and how to work the system. Maybe strict, supervised community service for several years (not months) where he actually has to work hard and learn what’s funny and what’s not. But the justice system being what it is, he’ll get a few months probation and go on his way.

Considering the potential harm Swatting can cause, not to mention how much it costs the cities/counties, I’d say a few months to a year in Juvenile Jail, a year of community service and no opportunity to play sports for a year should do it (or if he hates sports, MAKE him play for a year). This prank isn’t funny – but the kid’s life shouldn’t be ruined. The reason we don’t give 12 year olds credit cards and cars, or let them vote, is because they have NO judgment. JMHO.
