Why even have a trail if sometime before it ends BP and the DoJ will make a deal and the whole trial process will be wasted.

When and if they settle out of court the fine should be only 20% less than what the DoJ and the States are seeking.

It’s a good thing modern society doesn’t send human beings to prison for corporate acts of negligence that cause huge numbers of people to lose their livelihood and cause years and years of environmental damage to an area of the earth’s globe the size of the Gulf of Mexico. That would be such an injustice to the people who made the decisions that led up to that travesty… Instead modern society sends the guy who has a drug addiction and robs the local Seven-Eleven at gunpoint to prison for 10 years, for the decisions that led him to traumatize the lives of 2 or 3 people. But the destruction of an ocean or a gulf is purely an accident and is of course, less detrimental. Justice served…
