In e-books trial, U.S. says Apple conspired with publishers
Banks conspired with credit rating agencies, but that wasn’t a big enough problem for the DOJ to tackle.
breezinthru, does that mean that they should pursue this?
Yea Apple should know by now that they are not a member of the untouchables….like the bankers, the oil companies, politicians, pharma corps, etc. They are allowed to outsource jobs to communist and near slave labor nations but how dare they price fix, conspire, and swindle.
I am the inventor of the laser level US.5836081 One of my latest invention I will not file a patent for due to the potential other uses our fine government may find for it.
It seems that publishers need to be able to control prices so that books can remain on paper. I just finished a book and it is important for it to remain on paper as well as digital. If digital price is not controllable, as with Amazon; if you price above minimum you get punished with 2.33% additional commission rate.
.
I think Apple was protecting writers, and it should. Its 13 years of work I am trying trying sell.
Thank you for not printing my comments. I wouldn’t want you to be swarmed by the USA government MOB.

An interesting side note: These same publishers are charging public libraries a much higher price than what you see on Amazon. For example: The Racketeer by John Grisham can be purchased from Amazon for about $13.00 this same eBook is sold to all public libraries for $85.00. Several publishers are also limiting the amount of times an eBook can be checked to 25 at which point the public library must purchase another eBook. Public libraries are supported with tax payer dollars.
You the tax payer are being gouged to the tune of $72.00 every time a public library purchases one of these eBooks from one of the above publishers.
Public libraries can only purchase eBooks from the above publishers at one seller – Overdrive. While we can purchase printed / audio material from multiple wholesalers (just like a book store), we are not allowed to purchase eBooks like that.
Crooked people are everywhere… tat USA just happens to have more.
Apple’s problem is that they don’t “share” their profits with the ‘powers-that-be.’ This is no different than the government attack on IBM and Microsoft.
Right now, Apple “legally” has billions in profits in Irish bank accounts – no taxes due. The U.S. wants Apple to pay taxes to “somebody.”
In the meantime, Irish banks are profiting from those savings – via loans; while Apple has an enviable cash reserve.
BUT, if the “globalists” are missing-out on those funds; they have to be illegal – right?
So, now Apple is on trial for “conspiring” to keep prices low – “low!” If that’s some kind of crime, why not charge the major banks with “conspiracy” for the current interest rates?
And then – and THEN – if Apple loses; what price hike will be pulled out of the pockets of the consumer? Nothing personal; it’s just “business.”
If a person chose to pay more for an e-book through ITunes, who was harmed? It’s the buyer who determines the value of something and if they’ll pay it. Now if Apple had the power to dictate how much ALL books were worth, that’s totally different. I do wish we saw this much energy being put towards little things like immigration and Wall street hijinks that take place behind closed doors on the top floors of skyscrapers.
