Special Report: How Syria's Islamists govern with guile and guns
This article just makes me wanna cuddle right on up to those terrorists and change my mind about funding them. The murders are only extremists of the extremists you see.
Good job Reuters your paymasters will be happy. We still don’t believe you though.
Wait, most people just want to live their lives and make sure they can raise a family? Even Muslims?
No, no, this can’t be…
lex 70 watch out the nsa..
Truth is Syrians under Assad had more freedoms than most ME countries, same with Libya. The US seems to be on a mission to depose moderate Governments and install religious fanatics?
@ALALAYIIIAAAA
This information is freely available on the net.
@lex
yes you are a 9/11 truther and an anti-semite.
now do you actually have a relevant fact to associate with the OP?
/thought not.
@sinbad so Dictatorships are moderates in the Middle East now (or were), wow muslims really do suck at democracy and freedom.
Or, how the media colludes with the government to manipulate public opinion for war, using guile. Keep beating those war drums, Rueters. I’m sure someone is listening.
@Sinbad1
The U.S. never INTENDS to support religious fanatics, it just works out that way. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

“After the hell of the regime, we consider this an excellent situation,” Jaber said. “Yes, there’s a security vacuum, there’s chaos, and sometimes there are disputes. But it’s much better than before.”
Imagine living some place where lack of security, chaos and living under Islamist’s is preferred to the government. Mr. Al Assad, aka The Cowardly Lion, created this situation. But the man does not have the self esteem to even admit the failings of his policies. What a dope.
I think we need more drone attacks and shipments of arms to random militant groups. That’s bound to improve the situation.
@Sinbad1
“Truth is Syrians under Assad had more freedoms than most ME countries, same with Libya.”
Ok, I might can see that. But are we in agreement that protesting without being shot and kids being mutilated for spraying painting freedom signs are just not part the freedoms Mr. Al Assad, aka The Cowardly Lion, allowed?
@Slammy Do you have ANY proof that Assad did those things? I’ve looked very very hard and cannot find anything. If you have proof that he shot protesters then post the links please. Otherwise you are just promoting more violence.
@ biostudies
there is plenty of evidence,
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/syria-protesters-shot-dead-hama-142216688.html#WaKg47k
and then claims by assad that protesters were killed by extremists, which fails logic, since he was still claiming to control the country. And they were not protesting to get “Sharia Law”, they were protesting for simple freedoms.
It would have been so easy to let the press investigate and interview victims to support Assads claim but instead he shut down the internet and phones. Why would he do this? The world would have supported him if he was the victim of terrorists and he well knows this but clearly this was not the case. None of his logic makes sense when he claims that protesters were the victims of terrorism, none.
Insead of freedoms, they are now suffering another tyranny where local thugs make up the rules of society as they please. This is not freedom.
@BioStudies
If you go back to 2011 when the protests were in high swing, there are plenty of videos showing protests, men firing guns toward the protests and then bloody people lying in the streets. As far as videos showing bullets leaving the guns and then entering an unarmed protester in a Matrix style scene, no, I have not seen that. However, if that is the proof needed, then many of the claims made regarding the violence of the rebels is also called into question. Just because they video themselves firing mortars and 20 seconds later there is an explosion does mean they actually created the explosion. Right?
But, as for the kids who spray painted the graffiti that started the revolution, some of those kids are living in Jordan and have been interviewed by the media. Some are disfigured and can barely speak due to the damage to their voice box from torture. Did anyone video tape these kids being arrested and then video them being tortured? Not that I know of. But we know the protests started for their release and we know when they came out of prison they suffered scars that will remain with them the rest of their life. If that is not enough to connect some dots, then the give the rebels an equal break on what they are alleged to be doing.
Not really sure what the argument is here. Yes, both the Assad regime and the rebels are murderers. It’s a choice between supporting these so called “freedom fighters” or saying the hell with it and let both sides fight it out until extinction. The lesser of the two evils is clearly the Assad regime. After the war, they won’t be attacking us, the al Qaeda-affiliated rebels will.
@Slammy
@Biostudies asked you simply for evidence that the Syrian government SYSTENATICALLY engaged in a campaign to kill peaceful demonstrators. If you do not have it just say so and stop b.s.ing. I asked you the same thing over a year ago and I am still wating…
“kids being mutilated for spraying painting”
This should be easy to prove. Where is the mutilated body? I need proof so I can condemn this brutal act by “Assad’s forces”.
I can give you proof of “rebels” killing 4 Syrian police officers and abducting two more as early as November 19,2011, that is about just 4 weeks after “peaceful revolt”. What would happen in the US to a group of people who kill 4 police officers and abduct 2 mores?
90% of accusations by activists, “rebels”, Reuters, Western leaders, Obama,… against the Syrian government are lies. Everything from killing unarmed protesters to using chemical weapons is just a bunch of lies. Regime-change has failed because it was backed by a campaign of LIES. And frankly Obama embarrassed himself last week by making unfounded chemical use allegations in the same way Collin Powell did with Irak.
@Fromkin
“This should be easy to prove. Where is the mutilated body?”
A news stations did an interview with one or two of the boys a few months back. I cannot remember which one but it should be findable.
“I can give you proof of “rebels” killing 4 Syrian police officers and abducting two more as early as ”
First, I have doubt that all sides are committing heinous acts. This is war, it is what happens in war. Name me the wars where war crimes have not been committed.
But Ok, I will bite, show me proof at the same level of detail that you require as proof that the regime stated this with bad acts. Basically, show me the video the soldiers being abducted and then physically killed by the same people who abducted. We need to see the actual act with the camera on the scene. I am sure such exists but I would like to see what you consider proof if a guy firing a gun into a crowd and then bloody bodies being on the street is not proof enough.
Also, I have been asking for over a year to meet you in Homs for a beer so that you can show me how peaceful Syria is. Why do you keep ignoring this benign request? I have two weeks off in August and need to start making travel plans within the next few weeks.
This regime has ruled Syria for 40 years and during the last two years has killed around 100,000 civilians and made around 6 millions Syrians refugees.
What do you think the result is if the situation continue like that?
how many refugees is going to be in the next couple of years and how many people are going to be killed?
@fromkin
wow you are german educated and yet lie for Iran and Syria, using a non english generated set of talking points (as shown by exact dupes of other posters using the same talking points for that day)
as for docs wiki Human rights violations during the Syrian civil war
and then ask yourself, if all those disparate orgs are slandering Syria then why do you think you version is the truth besides getting paid? I mean it’s not like you can get google to remove the info.
@VoltureTx
You do not make sense at all. What’s “non English generated set of taliking points”? You try to sound smart but ignorance is not something that’s easy to conceal. Do you even know what a talking point means since there is none in my previous post? Saying people lied is not a talking point, it’s a value judgement derived from my own observation and experience.
“…as for docs wiki Human rights violations during the Syrian civil war”.
This is irrelevant. We are not debating human rights violation during war but prior to that. We are not talking about rebels killing a 14 years old in public because he refused to serve them coffee or killing their enemies and eating their organs. And even if we were debating human rights violations during the war, I am sure you’d ignore rebels’atrocities and justify them by saying: Assad’s forces have committed more atrocities than “rebels”. Which is an example of a taliking point generated by the media and war lobby. Another example of their talking points is: Assad is killing its own people(but without naming even one).
@fromkin
you and oxen have be seen to use the same set of talking points. I am sorry your english skills do not allow you to parse . Nor evidently your past acts to relevance to what you say, since propaganda is rarely consistent with the facts.
@Fromkin
“…ignore rebels’atrocities and justify them…”
That is a powerful statement. For the record, I do not ignore anything I have time to see. I believe the rebels, who used to be just be a few armed gangs in isolated locations are committing war crimes. I do think the regime is committing war crimes but that alone excuses nothing. The who, where and what are always difficult questions in war. War crimes happen in every war by both sides except maybe, for the allies in the first Persian Gulf War. There were a few misguided bombs but I am not sure those are actionable.
A war crime tribunal can sort out the bad people when this is over. Something Russia has been against since the start. I do not believe crimes should be forgiven or forgotten and all those responsible for such acts should be punished. No, that is not it.
The reason I root for the rebels is that Mr. Al Assad, aka the Cowardly Lion, is a complete and total idiot who should not be running a McDonald’s, let alone a country. Here is how I see it: He could have likely avoided this conflict by offering a few token democratic reforms and labeling himself the bringer of freedoms. Just enough to make news. This would have allowed outside investment and likely made the guy one of the ten richest people in the world. Syria is one of the few untapped international market that has/had some spending power. He could have skimmed a fortune from setting up deals. But no, no your hero, instead he takes the hard way. Then, he loses over half his country to people he calls armed gangs while bragging how weak and isolated they are. We have armed gangs in the US, as do other countries, they are not this big a deal. But then, into hostilities, his central command is bombed during a important meeting killing his brother and other top people. The week after the rebels said something big was about to happen. Bad security dude. But also, in the middle of, likely due through a bad IT department, he allows his mistresses butt be become a headline photograph. The dude’s mistress was naked all over the world. Think about that. If these same events happened in the US, president would have been run out of office! Do you disagree? Why should this guy get a break if no other world leader would? I root for the rebels because their opposition is so dumb they are more dangerous than their opponent. And I think any people who have a degenerate of this level on throne are allowed to rise up and remove him for their own safety.

A good, propaganda free Reuters’report explaining some geopolitical ramifications of the conflict. Check also Al Manar link below to get a grapthic image of the Shiite Crescent which Saud Arabia fears can become a full moon and which is making it and its allies intervene in Syria.

“you and oxen have be seen to use the same set of talking points. I am sorry your english skills do not allow you to parse . Nor evidently your past acts to relevance to what you say, since propaganda is rarely consistent with the facts.”
To parse what? LOL. You don’t even know the meaning of “parse”.
Stop polluting this forum with your nonsense. I can be your English(not english) teacher. Your post is not even in bad English, it’s some gibberish. Why don’t you just post in Yiddish or Hebrew?
What’s this? “Nor evidently your past acts to relevance to what you say..”
This is the worst English sentence formulation I’ve seen in a long time. It has no meaning. You get a headache trying to make sense of it.
You are writing unintelligible sentences without verbs and criticizing my English? The lack of humility makes you unaware of your intelligence limitations. You never miss an opportunity to smear and attack me. I’ve already figured you out and avoid responding to your unintelligent comments. I feel sorry for people like you.
Keep saying one side is better than the other, the body count is still going up.
Keep saying one side is better than the other, the body count is still going up.
We heard this same claptrap nonsense in Iran when the Shah was deposed, then again in Egypt during Obama and Hillary’s “Arab Spring” – in these cases the radicals always triumph eventually – just as they have in Afghanistan under the Taliban.
And as they would in Syria if Assad were to ever fall, which we should hope never happens.
@FROMKIN
YES MY POSTING STYLE DOES THROW NON NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS OFF ;)
/of course unlike you and oxen , I am not compensated as a PR “Bagdhad Bob “
