Smart move, hug your enemy. The rebels are hitting high valued targets close to the regimes base of power. The regime will either need to increase security, pulling troops from the front lines, or deal with attacks on its central infrastructure.

It’s a suicide bombing. Not a rebels’attack. There is no rebellion no more in Syria but terror attacks by al Qaida affiliated groups which are described as the most EFFECTIVE fighters by Western media and leaders. TERROR ATTACKS=EFFECTIVE FIGHTING=INSANITY.

SUICIDE BOMBING IS A TERROR ATTACK. NOT JUSTIFIED IN WASHINGTON,BOSTON,PARIS,LONDON BUT SOMEHOW JUSTIFIED IN DAMASCUS.

Umm… no… what am I counting down to? The fighting will either end soon or not. The rebels have been labeled doomed, outmatched and of no consequence since this started two years ago, and here we are. My guess is that the same people will be posting here in a year stating how defeated the fsa is, just like they were doing this time last year.

The biggest mistake the regime seems to be making from my humble observation is tying to fight the fsa everywhere at once. The regime should firmly secure some areas and then launch surgical strikes to undermine the support and logistics of its opposition. Then move in to retake and secure lost ground with concentrated force. The regime has, or had, tremendous overwhelming firepower but has squandered it in a piecemeal fashion playing a game of whack the terrorist. To me this bombing is an attempt to keep the regime on the defensive and force them place more men in the rear guard. If they do, that decreases the front lines. If the do not it makes these targets easier. Decisions, decisions.

That’s great! But was there ever really a rebellion in the first place? This time last year it was just a few armed gangs and most of the country was at peace, remember? When did that turn into a rebellion? So the fighting should be over before Ramadan, right?

@Slammy it’s pretty funny how you fanatical liberals come out in favor or terrorism and war and claim that other people who don’t are tyrants. Epic fail.

Real action took place in Lebanon today live on TV. It involved a fight between the Lebanese army and the followers of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Assir who ordered Salafi members in the army to defect and join the fight .

Thx, glad to bring some humor into an otherwise dreary topic. But, I had no idea I am liberal. Your comment would make some friends of mine smile. I have been a registered republican since I could vote, I love guns and think there should be more of them, I am pro death penalty, pro-business and hate taxes. I am pro-life but believe I have no right to tell someone else to do with their body and the government should stay out it. I believe Marijuana should be decriminalized but there are many on the right who think so to. I do enjoy history and have a fondness for learning the reasons of war and its outcomes. Which views makes me a fanatical liberal again?

Also, I do not support terrorism but the distinction between terrorist and freedom fighter are usually only sorted out later. Often by the victor. George Washington was a terrorist after all. I do think that the rebels are better described as insurgents with terrorist tendencies as their goal is to secure and hold territory. Terrorism, by its definition, is the act of making a political statement through violence and fear. Once the goal is to organize a fighting force and fight a drawn out battle they become insurgents. There is also the distinction between terrorist and violent criminal, the Boston bombers are in the category of violent criminal.
I do believe people should have the right to protest and hold their government accountable. If a US president screwed up as bad as Mr. Al Assad, aka the Cowardly Lion, the US president would be run out of office. The picture of his naked mistress making international news last year alone would have run an American president out of office. I fail to see why this man and his regime should get a free ride. I understand why his nation rose up when no other world leader could get away with being so stupid.
But, ok, I think we both agree that there are war crimes happening in Syria. Right? I have never stated there were not or those committing barbaric acts should be immune from prosecution. So lets have a war crimes tribunal and put both sides on trial for their actions. All soldiers, generals and leaders. For it? I just do not think the Pro Assad people will ever agree to have their leader stand trial. Until the, the fighting without consequences goes on and on.

@Slammy Ah my bad it slipped my mind that GOP idiots were still beating the war drums. To your credit you are probably more beholden to your believes than a liberal who is either for or against things depending on what his masters tell him.

To respond to your question. There is absolutely no proof and I mean NO PROOF that Assad shot at protesters first. NONE. Believe me I have looked very hard. To be sure protesters were shot but people in Syria I know say that it wasn’t the army shooting them. Sure some soldiers from the SAA have probably engaged in extra judicial killings of terrorists (key word terrorists) and civilians have died from heavy weapon attacks etc. However the only side engaging in whole sale massacres of innocents is the FSA.

I agree that Assads military should be put on trial for any warcrimes committed but only if we march our own army up there with them and all our leaders as well. We are no saints. We have no moral authority anymore. We lost it bathing in the blood of Iraqi’s and the Vietnamese.
