Obama takes on power plants as part of new climate plan
hahaha is this a joke so to forget snowden’s case and syrian rebellion disaster? what is next? the weak euro?
yes because its not important now and the president should spend his time doing things that amuse conservatives.
by the way had a conversation about climate change with a conservative the other day, absolutely frightening propaganda on their end, scary, scary stuff.
Obama a usual has his priorities all wrong. The challenges of climate change will always be with us even far into the future. What Obama really needs to concentrate upon is all the corruption and unprofessionalism bordering on ciminal conduct. I’ll mention just a few issues for starters : Benghazi! Who is responsible for failing the ambassadors who lost their live? Fast and Furious! Who were the authors of this infamous program? What actions if any were taken against them? NSA! Who was responsible for initiating this horrifying program involving spying on average American citizens technically violating their rights? The Secret Court! Who is on it and when was this court created and why does it have to be held in secret? Who are all the representatives who oversee its operation? Our soldiers that are still fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan! When are they all coming home? Any time soon? Why is it that the President of the United States is incapable of showing any candor or truthfulness in his public statement? Is Obama limited in what his says by a secret agenda we have yet to lean of?
Jethro – just because someone is a conservative, it does not automatically mean that they are automatically racist, homophobic, big business, and against climate responsibility.
Talk about propaganda…
Nuclear power is, on a power/death ratio, the safer than any “green” energy source today. It produces exponentially more power. There are ways to reuse and otherwise drastically reduce waste byproducts, and plants have been designed that are “walk-away safe.” Nuclear power can quickly be made to replace fossil-fuel power plants, as well as desalinate massive amounts of water for places that lack sufficient rainfall for growing crops (as well as stopping the depletion of natural aquifers).
Climate change is actually the most important issue facing America and humanity. Shame America is a basket case and an empire past its peak. Obama must try, but due to its idiotic 2 party political system rotten with corrupt lobbyists that work for the likes of the Koch Brothers, time is running out for America to redeem itself. There is a chance, lets see, unfortunately I have more faith in other countries stepping to take the lead!
Easier to lead when you cannot measure the results. The President must convince the expanding economies in the Asian countries to reduce their emissions if we want to address this (perceived) crisis.
If one evaluates all of his recent foreign policy successes (Russia, Hong Kong, Libya, Egypt…and now arming the Islamists in Syria) perhaps we can anticipate the outcome. I feel better already.
But it makes for positive press when we have national security issues, cover-ups and incompetence flourishing in the White House. (Jethro, go ahead blame his failures on conservatives should it make your feel better.)
U.S. moves on regulating emissions from existing and new coal-fired power plants, while the Harper government recently exempted existing plants from new limits for fifty years, while at the same time increasing the emissions limits almost 20%.
The new regulations include broad transitional exemptions for existing coal-fired power plants that defined the end of the useful life of an existing coal-fired plant had been set to 45 years in the initial outline of the rules, but have been changed to 50 in the latest version. The new rules are “at the high end” of the 360 to 425 tonne per gigawatt hour range considered.
We have had the technology to eliminate virtually all emissions for 50 years or more.
The Nov. 2012 IEEE report, called the U.S. “Dual Fuel Strategy: An Energy Transition plan”, was based on a 1982 IEEE report, “An ammonia energy vector for the hydrogen economy” IJHE, Jan. 1982, 7 (4), pg. 355-359, which was based on a 1967 study by Prof. Leon Green, Jr., writing in Science magazine, called “Energy needs versus environmental pollution: A reconciliation?”, Science, vol. 156, pp.1448 -1450 1967,
The long term consequences of the greenhouse effect due to CO2 buildup in the atmosphere are of serious concern. . . . To remove the offending elements (carbon and sulfur) from the fuel prior to combustion is a much more efficient and less expensive procedure than trying to clean up the combustion products. . . . Outlined below is a concept for energy generation in which the fossil fuels are not burned directly but serve as raw materials for the synthesis of a clean fuel. . . This clean fuel is ammonia. . . .”
Please Mr. Obama, tell us how adding tens of millions of 3rd world criminals with the Gangster 8 bill is going to help cut down on pollution in America?
It is time to impeach and resist the “King.”
Obama clearly thinks he is above Congress, above the law, and above the Constitution.
Too bad Romney didn’t fight the voter fraud in the last election. But that cowardice is what gave us Obama. When men fail to take action, evil flourishes.
Funny I don’t see the push for Carbon free nuclear power plants, so I guess the IPCC (and its followers) is not serious.

Ah COindependent, I’m a CO Independent. Let’s secede, expropriate all property owned by Texans, and dump Lamborn, DeGette, and Hick. Really, we don’t need the rest of this.
Another day, another ‘photo Op/Campaign Op’… Has anyone told ‘his highness’ that that he is ‘term limited’? Obama is the Rodney Dangerfield president – he gets “No Respect’… Not from China, Russia, Ecuador, Congress or SCOTUS.. Talk about being a ‘lame duck’; this guy is a ‘dead duck’..
How ironic that you use STEAM emissions from a nuclear power plant to illustrate Obama’s assault on truly harmful emissions other power sources.
If the US were to dedicate design and technology expertise for creating a SINGLE design for nuclear plants — we could realize these benefits:
1. Need more power in an area? Add another cluster cookie-cutter plant.
2. Unified construction, engineering, and operation training and supervision
3. Create a NASA or Manhattan Project like quest for the best/safest design
4. Simplify regulation and operation oversight with unified design
5. Ongoing metrics of design make incremental modifications easier/faster
Can’t work in reality? One of the most successful airlines to ever fly, Southwest, for years only used one aircraft type — the Boeing 737 — for the same reason.
I guess (after he gets back from touring Africa) his highness will be parking the royal jet and stopping all those emissions. Not making four hundred campaign trips would have made an impact as well.
These are multiplied by three at as decoy jets fly as well.
Hail to the hypocrite in chief.
The Keystone pipeline has already been built. The only section missing is from Cushing, Ok to the Gulf. And that piece has already been approved. Google their website. What they are debating today is a second route from Canada done through Nebraska.
This planet is doomed, Obama has done nothing in the last 5 years but make big problems even bigger and raising our debt to astronomic proportion that will ultimately turn this country into bankrupt mess. Ask yourself what has he don’t to make anything less expensive or better?
That a way Obama!
Let’s tackle a global issue domestically by making America less competitive in the global economy while developing nations pollute the environment we all share…genius!
Wow, Obama is misfiring on all cylinders now. He fails to understand the $8 Billion he “wants” too set aside must be appropriated through….wait for it….wait for it….the House! So, let’s kill the pipeline jobs, close several coal plants (you know, we have so many of them) and watch jobs being lost. Modernizing coal plants is very expensive and Obama has laid out no plan for that. It’s a matter of time before we see the affects of this idiotic decision.
What about the Irony of flying to Africa tomorrow? Do you liberals have any idea how much carbon emissions plane travel produce? We should be ok with it though because obviously we need our President in Africa to conduct important business.
This pi** poor excuse for a president is doing everything he can to destroy America.
Even his own ultra-liberal EPA has stated that building the pipeline will have no significant impact on carbon emissions because the oil would instead go to China as the Canadians have already publicly announced.
Perhaps Obama is trying to kill this as “payment” from his Chinese masters?
Welcome to the Obamination…
Warren Buffet has already bought the cancellation of this pipeline. His Burlington Northern stands to make a fortune transporting that oil. This is why he supported Obama’s tax hikes on the rich. Anyone who doesn’t see the backscratching going on here isn’t paying attention… which is most everyone.
ARJ our nation is evolving into two countries. Those in the cities who seek ever-increasing government involvement in their lives, and those in rural areas who seek minimal interference in their daily lives from government.
When looking at the 2012 national election map by county, you can see where the President appeals to the the populations concentrated in metro areas, while Romney dominated the rural areas. This is the challenge going forward. Urbanites demand more, and while rural populations disagree they still meet their personal commitments to the country. This country will end up like California, where those consumers of government services concentrated in the metro areas will vote to spend ever more, totally ignoring the wishes of those less reliant on government, until there is no one else to tax. At that point, we are all consumed by the black hole of level playing field–one in which we will all be broker (with the exception of the politicians who will continue to exempt themselves from their own legislation.) California here we come…(isn’t there a song?), the entire country will be an economic dust bowl, and the city dwellers will start consuming one another.

This president is such a smarta$$…
While I am not an Obama fan and consider myself conservative, I have to give him a little bit of slack here. He is the president of the US! He has more than just Snowden on his plate at all times. As far as climate change is concerned I believe it needs to be addressed consistently, as it is not a huge problem right now, but changing back the climate is like moving a continent, it’s not going to happen in a day.
The lead-off video clip sure tells us where Reuters stands on the Keystone issue. Way to stay objective (not). What never seems to get mentioned is the millions of Albertan acres being turned into a scene straight out of a nuclear doomsday movie. This is the main environmental disaster that Keystone hopes to perpetuate.
What an loser; we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to become energy independent and he decides to impose higher costs on our economy, reduce growth over both the short and long term and eliminate jobs..
@vudu, what death/power ratio are you talking about? How many people have been killed by solar or wind? Zero. How dangerous are nuclear plants? Ask the Japanese.
Nuclear power plants have a place in America’s power portfolio, but let’s not try to exaggerate something to promote their role. They are the most dangerous form of power generation in terms of accidents, but coal is the most dangerous form in terms of emissions. Coal has killed more people than all other forms of power generation combined in America.
I think the American people would much prefer that Obama take upon himself the task of bringing all the All Volunteer Army soldiers home from Afghanistan, Iraq and now Jordon without further delays. That is where the President should obviously be devoting all his energy but it continues to escape him. He is incapable of extracting himself from the grip of the military industrial complex that surrounds him.
Obama’s new “War on America”
The comments here are all absurd. It’s just like the PATRIOT act, but red is blue and blue is red. Partisan bickering and name-calling. No matter which bumper sticker is on your car, you’re still getting screwed by politicians and greedy execs.
It is simple. Your gangsta team screws up. You ignore responsibility. Take off. Then, after no one can nag you, you send media blasts of the other stuff. You show shiny objects to impress the children. If this is not a Jedi mind trick, I do not know what is.
It’s Obama’s own fault that his carbon agenda is a meaningless failure.
It’s really sad how little this President has accomplished on climate change when that was one of the main issues he ran on in 2008. Rejecting the Keystone pipeline (which may not even happen) and setting stricter rules on power plants (which are bound to be challenged in court)are the absolute minimum he should be doing. We should have a tough anti-carbon tax on the books by now. Obama could have done this by negotiating reductions in income tax rates to pacify the Republican House. Yet again Obama has failed the people that elected him.
What this article fails to mention is Obama’s way of transporting without carbon emissions. Note, he wants to transport using freight train. Train is owned by Warren Buffet.. Trains kick out mega carbon emission, and are also the most riskiest way of moving crude. This deal is all political.. Buffet was a big Obama Donor.. he bought Burlington a couple months after election.. it’s all about the money, not about green this or green that! Pipeline would of been the safe and greenest way!
He didnt mention how much more consumers would spend for electricity. He also failed to tell us how many more manufacturing jobs would move to China and India where cheaper electricity makes for cheaper products. Of course, being democrats we don’t care about that because we will tax republicans to pay for electricity subsidies and unemployment benefits.
Why is everyone so scared of a pipeline? The president of Shell USA says they hope to get up to 40% of energy consumption supplied by alternate sources by 2050! Furthermore consumption will double by then (on a daily basis). It does not take a genuis to figure we will need twice as many hydrocarbons to fill the need.Tell the President to stop flying and get rid of his motorcade? I do n ot think so. Get america to give up cars, planes, plastics, and all of the other hydrocarbon products? Better get into fighting mode because only the strong will survive. Unlikely his plan will accomplish any significant change like he always promises. Eight years zero impact.
He can’t even tell you what a power plant is, he just see’s votes and keeping his top owner (George sorous) happy.
sorous doesn’t have stock in coal, but he does in oil transportation in texas.
Oh by the way forget about bengazi (what really happened) where are the other 23 people who were there? spying on all americans, while letting the brothers in boston get away, Irs harassment,300 dead Mexicans from obomaguns etc etc
He is trying to change the subject and his oboma care is a big try to kill the American economy. If it were so good, why isn’t he and moochie going to be on it.
