Egypt army gives Mursi 48 hours to share power
Egyptians must be much more determined to remain free than residents of the US.
And Obama says ….thank God (or his reasonable facsimile thereof) for Mursi …at least I’m not he worst current elected president
America can learn something from Egypt about organizing against a government that does not serve its will.
America can learn something from Egypt about organizing against a government that does not serve its will.
The continuing mayhem in Egypt is a direct result of 1 million Egyptians becoming unemployed due to unrest and rebellion in Libya two years ago. The West, because of oil interests, intervened and ultimately led to the downfall of the dictatorial regime of Muammar Gaddafi. These unemployed Egyptians, who were forced out of Libya, kept returning to Tahrir Square and demonstrating.
The grim reality is that the Morsi government or any other government is incapable of providing jobs to the 1 million unemployed Egyptians who had well-paid jobs in Libya.
Interestingly the architect of US support for the rebellion in Libya was former US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice. Ms. Rice, who is the current advisor to the National Security Council, has strong ties to the oil lobby; she was a paid consultant for the Alaska Keystone pipeline project. The misguided policies of Ms. Rice led to the destabilization of northern and Sahel Africa.
Libya has become another Iraq and there is no sign that stability will return to Libya in the near future; the Libyan economy is in tatters. The terrorist attack on US Consulate in Benghazi in September 2012 that led to the murder of four Americans including US Ambassador Christopher Stevens was one sad consequence.
Mali is another fallout of the Libyan unrest. Thousands of young men from Mali and Chad, who were employed as paramilitary soldiers by the Gaddafi regime, returned to Mali to join the Islamist insurgency in northern Mali. French troops managed stop the takeover of the Mali by the Islamists.
No doubt that the U.S. and Israel a behind uprising the Egyptians voted in the wrong people. They’ll just keep on voting until they get it right
Obama and the US taxpayers have supplied tanks, money and military support to the Mursi Muslim Brotherhood regime. Should help put down these freedom loving radicals. I wonder if they have an IRS?
Well, it seems there is always misunderstanding. demonstrations were all over Egypt, even in small villages, you seem to focus on big cities. young activists declared TAMRUD (REBEL) two months ago and managed to gather over 22 million signatures from Egyptian people that withdrawing confidence from Mursi and demanding early elections. TAMRUD is declared and supported by the people not politicians, so it is a movement of the people not opposition which is weak. US thinks it is the oppositions who are against Mursi, and it is not true because no one could make over 15 million (according to GOOGLE) to go down to streets in one day. The American Ambassador supports Muslim Brother Hood and gave wrong picture that they are the only powerful player in the country. The American is making the same mistake they always do which is dealing with regimes not people, and because it is not possible to stand against people wishes they always lose the regimes and the people. So I suggest the US Government should start learning the fact that you can not stand against the Egyptian people and start dealing with Egyptians know that even if dealing with the people is more difficult and expensive but it is certainly more stable.
The Muslim Brotherhood is planning to dismantle the pyramids and build a new mosque. Before these cretins finish destroying the Egyptian peoples’ rights and spirit, ancient Egypt will look high-tech and space-age compared to the Brotherhood’s handiwork.
Egyptian people, it’s happening everywhere. Old, mostly white (but not necessarily white) chauvinistic, puritanical, power-hungry menopausal men are trying to “turn the clock back” to a simpler time when young people were more easily enslaved. Look at what’s happening in the U.S., in Europe, in Asia, everywhere. Old mendacious menopausal men are realizing that their way of life is not only going away, the youth of the world are turning their backs on it. Like the school-yard bullies, these old men would rather destroy the ball and sports field rather than play as team members.
The only hope for Earth, as it has always been, is in the hands of the young. In 50 years religion and lies will no longer hold sway over humanity and these little tin-gods will have all died away. It really sucks to know you are totally irrelevant as you are losing your power.

Cute how you left out congress in that equation. And I don’t know how many times I have to point this out, and its even stated in the article itself that the Egyptian Army =/= the Mursi regime. The Egyptian Army is funded by the US, yes, but that’s more to protect the Egyptian-Israeli peace deal. I know how much you guys want to point out this false Obama-Muslim connection because you guys are blind, bigots, or just stupid (or you just want to harken back to the good ole Bush Jr days when he offended basically everyone else in the world) but stop your really reaching.
It’s interesting to read all the anti-Obama language here. International politics is part of U.S. governing–Ask Bush Sr about that.
The uprisings in Libya and Egypt –all over the MidEast were inevitable. Any violence connected to these uprisings is practically unavoidable. Just as the people of Iran have recently voted for a moderate government so have all the peoples in the world come to expect more service and less demands from their governments. We live in the age of social media. The internet has connected us all and that changes us all. I see the violence as sad but above all I am happy and hopeful that this is the process of progress for the middle east. The first step in Egypt was ousting the corrupt leader. Then they got the brotherhood. Now this next step is saying, hmm, we want the separation of church and state. It’s beautiful. The Egyptian people are beautiful.
@cecilnixxon – thanks for the laugh, someone once said never trust anyone over 30. you know what happened, he got old.
/and thanks for being a racist, it makes it easier for everyone else to be a bigot ;)
“From the Koran: God’s curse be upon the infidels! Evil is that for which they have bartered away their souls. To deny God’s own revelation, grudging that He should reveal His bounty to whom He chooses from among His servants! They have incurred God’s most inexorable wrath. An ignominious punishment awaits the
unbelievers. Cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers.”
How surprised can someone be. Just look at these comments and it is easy to see that the extremists on both sides of the spectrum are calling the shots. Throw in a pinch of moooslim religion and mix it all together and you get what you deserve.
Where are all the left wingers? Why are there no calls for human rights or war crime tribunals?
Where are all the right wingers? They have been exposed as liars and cheats on a scale that dwarfs any greed the left wing can muster.
The only thing that idiot palin ever said that makes sense is ” let allah sort it out”
Keep it up and all of you idiots will be wearing arab bed sheets.
We need an uprising here to eliminate the Taliban Christian Church which is trying to impose their biblical fairy Creationism on everyone as a true science. They do this by voting in republican shills whose goals are to futher their biblical fairy tale beliefs.
Mursi does not have democratic legitimacy, since once in power he went about undoing democracy. You can’t just use democracy to get into power, you need to maintain that same democracy that got you there, otherwise you lose legitimacy. Many communist governments, even Hitler, came to power democratically, but once in power they stripped the people of all vestiges of democracy. Mursi and the Brotherhood are doing the same. Hence, Mursi’s claims of “democracy” is one big lie. Besides, to think Islamic Brotherhood and their Salafi partners believe in democracy is quite laughable.
So as expected short Egyptian experiment with democracy will end soon.
To my astonishment end of democracy will be in military dictatorship way (another coup and Mubarak clone will rule) not islamist sharia law dictatorship way (by Muslim Brotherhood).
Well it is generally better for long-term prospects of the country, but in medium-term means a lot of terrorism and no tourism.
The problem is that many including Americans, think Democracy means imposing the will of a majority on the entire country. That’s not what a real Democracy is, the rights and will of everyone including the minorities should be respected if not, it’s only a matter of time before that fake democracy is toppled.
It is the selfishness of the opposition leaders which brought Morsi as president, by refusing forming a coalition and nominating one of them for the presidency.
Instead of encouraging people to demonstrate and demolish the country, get united and get majority in the parliamentary election.
They are insanely driving the country into a civil war.
When one extremist is replaced with another, there will be no peace. Whatever happened to a middle ground? Reminds me of our own nation.
Thomas Jefferson warned about this revolution that would happen in America every now and then to protect Americans:
“… God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive.
If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty…. And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.
The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”
This is very encouraging. I hope Turkey takes notice that any fundamentalism working it way into politics will not be tolerated in our open societies.
Only illiterate places like remote Afghanistan can hang on to barbaric Sharia law and bizarre tribal rules. One or 2 more generations and they only be found in our history books.
Smaller demonstrations than this, much smaller, prompted Hillary Clinton to stab our ally Hosni Mubarak in the back, demand his resignation, and led directly to the chaos in the region. And now that incompetent fool wants to be president?!?!?
The army is wrong. Egyptians must fight the army to free themselves from its tyranny. I am not MB supporter but democracy must be respected. Those who won the election must be free to govern.
The military is playing their cards close to their chest like always but good to see that they aren’t going to 100% back an Islamist regime.
The protesters appear to represent the Egyptian middle class. It appears that, in Egypt as in many other countries, military and law enforcement professionals are drawn from the middle class. These positions require a certain amount of education and talent, making it necessary to have some educational qualifications. At the same time, however, they are too dangerous to appeal to people who are assured of a comfortable life regardless of what they do.
That the military is the voice of reason and proposes moderation is a clear indicator of political failure.

And what would you have done differently? Given the green light for Mubarak to massacre his people ? The people wanted a revolution and they got it on their own. They have freedom. Or would you have meddled in their internal affairs? Hypocrisy at its finest. We demanded freedom at one point, everyone should be afforded the same opportunity.
Sounds like the US who supplies billions each year to Egypt’s military is trying to help Egypt through their democracy’s growing pains.
Morsi already said he’s willing to try to work out something with the (liberal and secularist) opposition.
So all he has to do is quit the Moslem Brotherhood and strike the word “sharia” from the draft of the constitution and try to form a coalition with opposition leaders (if there are any) and get on with rebuilding the country’s economy. If it’s too big a job he should just quit and let the people elect someone else.
That this has happened should not come as a surprise to anyone who knows about the army in Egypt. The “modern” Egyptian army was developed after our Civil War by generals from the North and South. Most of the senior military personnel have been schooled in American War Colleges and academies. The army has it’s loyalty to the state, not a person. That is the difference, because of Americaninfluence, than other armies in that area of the world. It will be interesting to see how the army in Turkey acts with regard to their turmoil. Remember, always watch the actions of th army in the Middle East or elsewhere in Asia, including Russia.
I am Christian. Never support extreme Islamism or the MB but if the majority in Egypt wants an Islamic society, that choice must be respected. However, Islamists in Egypt must respect the views of others.
The majority in the US for instance supports Christianism(or Christianity, no difference), and no one forces its Christian government to share power with Muslims or Hindous. Those who follow Islamic faith need moderation and need to avoid imposing their religious views on others with the sword.
I believe Morsi should resign other than take ultimatum from a USA/Israel puppet army, that is ridiculous. Let the army take over and Egypt goes back to stone age of its usual puppet of West/Israel stance. Arm trotting has no place in civilian politics. Democracy does not equal-bombs and missiles. Egypt army does not have much respect because they are puppets and power greed trying to interfere with leadership. If they were a serious Arab army they should have helped liberate Palestine by now-or be on course or supporting to do so.
The Egyptian army wants stability and a secular government. Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islam does not represent the best interests of the Egyptian people AND the Egyptian army. The military hardware has gone to the army, not the Muslim Brotherhood. The army is bound to the state, not a person or a sectarian association.
This shows the election was rigged.
So its the military who really hold the power…Its obvious the the people want freedom of expression with no dominace from a religious organisation..a secular society

“Mursi’s backers were furious at the military statement: “The age of military coups is over,” said Yasser Hamza of the Brotherhood parliamentary wing.”
Apparently not!
I laughing because muslims and arabs take no responsibility for their OWN ELECTED MURSI !!
Its not the USA’s fault. Its not Israel’s fault – ITS YOUR OWN FAULT!
But – I am happy to see Egyptians doing something about it.
Obama should say clearly ” That the USA supports democracy – but only a democracy that can continue to be so – and not a 1 time transition of dictatorship”
That and Obama should start following his own laws – he should be in jail but for some reason the USA News wont report the crimes against the USA people he has committed!
Does the ultimatum from ‘The Army’ to Morsi, include the 600 US troops that Obama sent to Egypt to protect Morsi from his minions?
Fromkin …
You are So wrong.
The Muslim Brotherhood Hijacked that Election. Radicals are Very adept at intimidating voters and swaying the Vote their way.
The Egyptian People Want Freedom. Not Sharia Law. Get a Clue.
Ah the Arab Spring…Brought to you by Social Media & Facebook…brought to the masses by a Western Jew…
Mursi needs to share power. Do it and get it over with, or else there will be nothing left of Egypt.
The people are saying they don`t want a Muslim state.
Arab Spring was ugly, but Arab summer will make it look like Spring Break. Great job Obama and team, more reasons to hate the USA.
@jabberwolf, to quote you ‘That and Obama should start following his own laws – he should be in jail but for some reason the USA News wont report the crimes against the USA people he has committed!’ Please elucidate on your comment, what EXACT crime has Obama committed? Or are you just another rightie/Obama hater who has all the hyperbole but zero basis in fact? And last I checked it not the ‘USA News’ responsibility to conduct criminal investigations, that is for the FBI/Police.
@C$Party, to quote you ‘Arab Spring was ugly, but Arab summer will make it look like Spring Break. Great job Obama and team, more reasons to hate the USA.’ So you are telling us that now Obama is responisble for the internal politics of OTHER nations beyond the USA? Seriously?
And you all wonder why the rightie/Obama haters continue to be marginalized?
Personally, I hope the Egyptian people are able to work this whole thing out without a ton of violence, but true revolution rarely comes about without violence.
hmmmmmmm….perhaps it is time for regime change in Egypt.
USAPragmatist —- Perhaps you don’t remember Obama himself saying Mubarak needs to go? I would say the bus he threw Mubarak under was driven by Mursi. Obama should have kept his inexperienced mouth shut. But, just for you, let’s round out Obama’s ridiculous foreign policies. Egypt, threw Mubarak under the bus for known terrorists (and if the current situation doesn’t strike you, it probably means the elections were rigged). Iran, pumped up the protesters with rhetoric and let them be captured or killed by their government. Libya, broke our laws by waging a war without the advice or consent of Congress while violating the actual UN mandate of a “no fly zone to protect civilians”. Instead, we assassinated Ghadaffi, and before any buffoon says different, we bombed the very tent he lived in (hardly a no fly zone requirement). Syria, sat back and watched while 100,00+ are killed and only now wants to give small arms to the rebels, Al Qaeda backers. So, before you open your pie hole again, please explain why our foreign policy under this inexperienced twit is all over the map? I don’t hate Obama, it’s his policies that are hurting the USA.
USAPragmatist —-Obama said: “”"”"Furthermore, the process must include a broad spectrum of Egyptian voices and opposition parties,” Obama said. “It should lead to elections that are free and fair. And it should result in a government that’s not only grounded in democratic principles but is also responsive to the aspirations of the Egyptian people.”"”"” So, if Obama would keep his moputh shut about the unternal politics of other nations, I might tend to agree he would be partially responsible. So, instead of writing on here like a teenager, research first so you don’t have to look like a dolt. Obama has stuck his nose into too many other countries and is now paying the price (see spying on the EU for more issues). Thanks for playing anyway.
USAPragmatist —- —- The “exact crime” Obama committed was waging war in Libya without the advice and consent of Congress. Parts of Obamacare being declared unconstitutional by the SC. Allowing F&F. Not responding with more security in Benghazi. NSA spying on all of us and our allies. Targeting a head of state (Ghadaffi). Need I go on?
@C$Party, what you see as ‘all over the map’, more reasonable people like me see as tailoring your policies to fit nuanced situations. To me this is the smart thing to do instead of having a blanket policy with no thought to your decisions. I do not agree with everything Obama has done in the ME, but overall he is doing a MUCH better job then the previous POTUS. mostly because he does not jump to military involvement easily. For example I do not agree with the decision to arm the Syrian rebels(I think we should just stay out of it till their is evidence that chemical or other weapons are being obtained by terrorist orginazations and transported out of the country. But to mis-characterize this action as ‘giving these weapons to Al-Qaeda’ shows your true intentions/hate for our President. He, and other officials, have said many a time that before any arms are supplied, the recipient group must not be affiliated with radical elements like Al-Qaeda. If you are going to argue againsit his policies that is great, I will help you in the case of arming Syrian rebels, but by mis-characterizing his policies in this way shows your true intentions, IMO.
Lastly, you may want to do a little current events checking, Ghadaffi was killed by rebel groups after found by rebels in a culvert I believe. SO I would like to know how ‘we assassinated Ghadaffi’?
… while Brazilian truck drivers have a barbecue under rain, while blocking the main road to Santos port…
USAPragmatist —- Our bombs attacked his tent. The rebels pulled him out almost dead. I would call that “targeting a head of state”. It’s no different than if when we found Saddam and shot him instead of bringing him to justice. Furthermore, we are all over the map, or at the very least, inconsistent. Obama’s policies have created havoc in Egypt, Syria and have left the Israeli/Palestinian peace process on hold for almost 5 years. But, you call this tailoring his policies? If so, he failed miserably in Libya, Egypt and Syria. Please tell us you agree with that?????
@fromkin “I am Christian”
uh no you are not, neither are you from around Atlanta Ga. You keep lying but frankly you can’t keep your background story consistent with your writing. just because you went to a germanic school does not make you a Euro Christian much less an american.
@oxen. “Egyptian Army should liberate Palestine”
dang go ask Fromkin your work buddy how impossible that is. Next you support Assad, but the palestinian govt. is supporting the rebels in Syria, so why do you want to free palestine again?
/Yes the arab spring may turn out to be the best US Intel Op since WWII actions. but just because you can lead a muslim to democracy , you still cant make them do critical thinking.
USAPragmatist wrote: “”"”mostly because he does not jump to military involvement easily.”"”" Really? I guess you and I certainly see Libya differently. He seemed to have no problem jumping into Libya easily. You can say one thing, but actions show another. Try being truthful once in a while.
USAPragmatist —- Obama has stated Ghadaffi must go, he’s now dead and Libya still in turmoil. Obama has stated Mubarak must go and now Egypt is on the verge of a military take over. Obama has stated Assad must go and now 100,000 people have been killed and Syria is in a state of civil war. These are not coincidences, Obama doesn’t understand the power of the office he holds. He is inexperienced and we are seeing that all over the world at this point. You simply need to wake up to it.
See how many people putting the blame on Israel? As usual…
@C$Party, typical rightie/Obama hater, factually challenged…. I can not find any thing online where we bombed Ghadaffi’s tent, thus injuring him. From what I can tell he was in a military convoy leaving Sirt that got bombed, then was found by the rebels and subsequently killed.
Not only are you factually challenged, but hypocritical, back when the Libya thing was going on the rightie/Obama haters were accusing him of not intervening. Then it took up until it appeared as if Ghaddafi was going to ‘bulldoze’ over Benghazi before NATO intervened. So now according to you ‘He seemed to have no problem jumping into Libya easily. ‘ Even though at the time he (Obama) was a ditherer according to the rightie/Obama hater crowd. So which is it?
Maybe you should follow your own advice of ‘try being truthful once in a while’
All I am looking for is a little intelluctual honesty, it is your right to hate the man for whatever reason. But to then say you only hate his policies and then go and pervert what his actual policies are is not being intelluctually honest.
@C$Party and your listing of ‘exact crimes’ is just plain laughable.
Fromkim has said previously he is from Atlanta.
Some people think they are Christians when they are not. I mean, how can you say you are a Christian and support Assad all the while?
(Just to clarify, I am neither a fan of Assad nor a supporter of the rebels).
@Brazilian1 because Assad has been very tolerant of Christians in Syria. Syria has(d) the largest population of Christians in the middle east. Many people don’t support Assad directly but support the religious tolerance that prevailed before this fake civil war.
@Brazilian
no Fromkin claims he is from Atlanta, yet all the info he gives is from google and not in a format a local would use. Plus his English is germanic based and he let slip to others about localities that he does actually know.
And real christians don’t say PBUH unless they are Dhimmis is a mulim (OIC) country.
It is a hot hot “summer” in Cairo, cool “spring” has vanished conveniently. No need to anticipate that “spring” would bring democracy (whatever it may mean) to Egypt. It is going back to square one, the Mubarak’s era. (mtd1943)
