Brazilian protests… nothing better lately…
Wow… detecting an obvious lie here…
WHO recommends 1 doctor per 1000 people… with the ideal number of 1 doctor per 400…
If brazilian public service, the (in)famous SUS (known for pay a misery to consultations, procedures and surgeries) has 1.8 doctors per 1000… there are no lack of doctors at all… in fact it has the ideal number of doctors according to WHO…
But if you look at the distribution you ll probably see that some medium and big cities have 3-4 times the ideal number or even more…
Ask why? Imagine you are a doctor… and receives a job offer(there are plenty) to work in a small city in the north and north east promissing a relatively good salary (about 5% of an american doctor) and saying the place has X-ray, ultrasound and surgery room, etc… looks wonderful compared with brasilian standard…
But and after you arrive there…tcharaan… you find out you are not the only doctor in the hospital but in the city as well… the “staff” comprises of one poorly trained nursing auxilary and one guy that drives the ambulance when it works and does anything else… and not considering the lack of medication and other supplies… you find out if you need an ultrasound or x-ray you will have to operate the machines by yourself… and if by some bad lucky one surgery is needed… it is only you plus the woman… you have to anesthetize and operate the patient… because the next hospital is hundreds of miles away… (oh yes, if you dont know how to operate… you are f…..)
In the big cities things are err “better”… the value SUS pays for procedures and exams are so obsolete that hospitals now have a loss for each procedure they make… and many are deeply indebted… not considering the violence in the suburbs… not even an idiot want to be there… much less work there…
And the president’s publicity agent wants to pour in thousands of poor quality doctors from Cuba… because i am quite sure the portuguese ans spanish doctors will flee as soon as the first one is kidnaped, robed, raped or… long before that…
Will that solve anything? No but i am sure it will be fun.
