I shudder at the nature of the crime, but ‘life’ is way out of line; considering that manslaughter and even murder cases get far less.

The justice system needs an overhaul, with “productive labor” being part of viable sentences – in part, being a voluntary program. I don’t care if America’s prisoners have to dig a canal across the USA, a restricted life vacation is far too wasteful.

While some prisoners need to be locked up for long sentences, others could work off major portions of their sentences; with positive results. Even ‘lifers’ could find merit in being productive; say, garden/farm work. Let American prisoners, in stead of Chinese factories, produce military uniforms – for just one example.

For starters, have prisoners produce bricks for ‘construction’ and ‘industry’ compound walls. Set up a program so that brick sales could pay for the ‘retained’ brick production.

Put the prisoners to work setting up various industries – and penalties for breaking rules. Add an in-time reward system, as well.

In concert, set up a “welfare alternative” program, with conventional “at-home” and more remote open farm/labor camps being built, similar to the W.W. II ‘family style’ Los Alamos compounds. There are a lot of ‘computer’ jobs (add “call centers”) which could be created and farmed-out to private companies who would otherwise export jobs overseas. Between ‘training’ and productive labor, a lot of ‘welfare’ money could be productively recycled.

Then, people such as this gal could be appropriately punished; without also uniquely punishing the state and Federal coffers. (Not that the ‘saved’ tax money wouldn’t be ‘redirected’ to “connected” recipients.)

Skydrifter – so you want prisons to take jobs away from law abiding people? Cruel and unusual punishment to the good people vs. the law-breakers? You have a twisted money-grubbing sense of justice.

I agree with skydrifter, these jobs could create lower prices across the USA.

Those prisoners don’t have to take away regular jobs. Unemployment is a problem of the country’s management and it is little related to the number of job applicants. In fact, prisoners’ activities could be chosen to create job opportunities if they were mining raw materials that lawful people could process or build roads lawful people could build houses by. I know, it’s simplistic and philosophical.

Torture and dis-membering body parts is a serious crime, and in this instance rage to harm another cannot be excused. This is mafia-style motive to punish another person. She planned the crime, she will have to pay dearly for the crime. Crime meets punishment.

Completely out of line. If she had cut his throat, she would probably have gotten the same sentence. Its like “sex crimes”. People get a longer sentence for touching children inappropriately than if they had just bashed in their heads and left them crippled for life.

I don’t think the penalty was disproportionate. According to how the article was written, this was a premeditated, well planned “sexual assault” that ended up being focused onto an “ex” … and all because of her lame excuse of being “abused as a child”.

This woman was NOT remorseful because of what she did; she’s sad that she didn’t get away with it (probably hoping to get the “Bobbit” sympathy vote).

“Buyer Beware” when it comes to ordering a wife online from overseas!

She got what she deserved. This is not to excuse the husband, but this is a gross mutulation and the man has to live with it for life… so should she.
