Activists??? Since when do activists carry weapons and blow up schoolchildren?
Sorry Reuters but your reporter is interviewing TERRORISTS, not activists. There seems to be a conspiracy among the media to label the legitimate government as evil, and to label foreign fighters and terrorists as some sort of peace activists.
Ridiculous!

There will be a moment soon enough where there will be nothing left to protect or fight for. This nation is dilapidated and the people destitute. If it was bad before the anarchists took to the streets, it will remain so even if other countries intercede. “Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity” saith the late George Carlin. Laughably true, the world needs to step out of this arena and let the chips fall. Both sides are being fed by the many other nations who believe they have a stake in the outcome. No one wins. The Islamist movement insists on chaos. It proves theire is a thing called Armegeddon. Well, remember, people create hell. We cannot create peace.

Hezbollah only have small number of volunteers with Syrian Arab Army. It might seem strange for Reuters but Syrians aren’t so bad warriors, and after 2 years of fighting they learned a lot. They find their courage to send infantryman into cities, and deal with terrorists. And Syrian people are supporting their government more and more every single day, and popularity for terrorist is dropping.
I can’t say will Assad win the election 2014. but I can say that he will win this damn stupid civil war.

Other western countries should stop interfering with Syrian affairs, it’s because of this Syria is a war-torn country. The Saudi’s have done an excellent job of distorting the truth and creating myths. Unfortunately, mainstream media including Reuters have swallowed the Kool-aid totally.
Firstly, Saudi Arabia follows the Wahabi sect of Islam and have been trying to use their wealth, power and the fact that they control (occupy) the two holy sites of Islam (Mecca and Madina) to pressurize Sunnis to accept them as such. But true Sunni scholars have not accepted Wahabiism as a part of Sunni Islam.
Secondly, the Saudis have been chanting the mantra that Alawites are an offshoot of Shia Islam. This is also not true as the Alawis actually existed before Shiaism came into being and their core belief is rejected by all Shias.

I’m confused about this Arab spring and the similarity yet stark difference between the reaction in two countries.
First, there was a protest in Bahrain which was crushed with an iron hand. In fact, the Bahrain govt could not cope with it so the Saudi army came in to crush the peaceful demonstrations. Our beloved country (US) stayed silent throughout.
Then, came a similar situation in Syria in which people demonstrated demanding democracy and the govt cracked down on them. Immediately, the Saudis and flunkies started supplying arms to the demonstrators and the world termed them as rebels. Our beloved govt (US) also stepped in to aid them.
Question is why did the Saudis react in two different ways in these two countries. Meaning, in Bahrain they stepped in to prop up a ruler who refused to allow democracy while in Syria the Saudis immediately stepped in demanding the people be allowed a democratic govt.
And the final question that puzzles me is if Saudi Arabia is arming the rebels so that they can have democracy, does Saudi Arabia have a democratic govt?

1305rollins, none of this makes any sense until you think about the real reason there’s a double standard with the house of Saud, other Gulf countries and the US: money and resources.

We need the Saudis to produce oil and exert their power on other Sunni oil-producing countries. Syria doesn’t have any oil, but it has for a long time blocked any discussion about putting an LNG pipeline through their country to supply Europe, supplied and funded by Sunni states.

15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia. They are not our allies as much as the military-industrial-complex and other profiteering groups say they are. This war, and our terrible relationships in the ME, are nothing more than our government posturing diplomacy while behind the scenes, a handful of the wealthiest people in the world make their bank accounts larger.

Syria, like Libya, like Iran, like Iraq, irritated (and currently irritate) our plutocracy. Two of those countries’ leaders that resisted the US and our Arab “allies” have been disposed of, while Syria and Iran still remain on the list. It is no secret that our government has planned for a long time how to get rid of the people who prevent the elite from gaining more power and money. Gaddafi, like Saddam Hussein, was a major thorn in the side of oil barons, multinational contractors and banking institutions by blocking access to oil fields for Western corporations. Both of these disposed leaders were also in the process of trying to get out of selling oil for US dollars. This is not a tinfoil hat theory — this is confirmed truth.

Iran remains the biggest thorn yet, and consequently has some of the largest natural resource deposits in the world. They are also a threat culturally and religiously to our Arab “allies.” Syria is being dragged through the dirt by our media and war mongering politicians because of the aforementioned LNG pipeline and because they have a mutual defense pact with Iran.

As far as the Arab Spring goes, most of the protests that happened in N. Africa and in the ME started with excellent pro-democracy concerns. Unfortunately, all of the protests, except for Bahrain, were hijacked by Islamist Sunnis (Muslim Brotherhood) funded by — you guessed it — Saudi Arabia. The cat is out of the bag on the primary source of funding for the insurgents in Syria. However, Syria is more complicated than Libya simply because of Russian military interests in Syria (their only naval base in the Mediterranean), and Russia’s alliance with Iran. Throw Hezbollah into the mix and you’ve got your self one complicated struggle for power.

If only every American could step back and analyze the situation then it becomes very clear who benefits from this war. The same people who benefit from the war in Syria also benefit here in the United States by keeping working wages low, healthcare unaffordable and debt rates high. Unfortunately, most Americans appear to be too hypnotized and sedated to care about what happens in their own country, let alone some country in the ME they couldn’t even find on a map.

so how recent a convert to Islam are you? I mean you don’t even know the history and that Alawites showed up about a century after shia theology was created. So yeah the Alawaites are a Twelver offshoot; kind of obvious given who the founder was a disciple of.

/And Rollins please tell me what terrorist Bahrain was supporting when they put down those shiites? ‘Cause Syria was supporting Hezbollash and HAMAS (a little).

Vulture,
Do you really believe that all of a sudden Saudi and Qatar decided to jump into it because Syria is backing Hezbullah and Hamas? And who decided that they were terrorists? And by the same token why are not the illegitimate rulers of Saudi Arabia termed terrorists. Afterall, they are funding, arming and producing TERRORISTS at break neck speed (like a factory working on all cylinders 24/7).
Do you know that their brand of Islam (hard core Salafi) is the fastest growing sect of Islam in the world. For your information Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood both subscribe to Salafi school of thought.
What are your thoughts on the liver chomping Wahabi brainwashed Salafi?
Incidentally, that is probably one of the only barbaric acts that have extensively been covered by our “free” media with many more not even reported here especially the ones being committed against the Christians.

Nothing has changed. There will never be lasting peace in the Middle east. Only strong leaders like Arafat, Assad, Ben Gurion, Mubarek, Gadaffi and Saddam can keep temporary calm. Usually with selected violence.
