Deadly fire engulfed 19 Arizona firefighters in seconds
May they be safe and found soon. Thoughts are with the men and women fighting this blaze.
“It has been confirmed that 19 Wildland Firefighters have lost their lives on the Yarnell Hill fire Arizona..”
I don’t they are “safe”… and they have been found.. dead.
Tragic loss.. they should of let it burn.
Condolences to all family and friends. A trajic loss for everyone.
A team of 19 firefighters was killed . . . .
Sad day for so many real hero’s who risk and even give up their lives to save us.
@sciencephd & @ALALAYIIIAAAA:
We can all see that you have no brains to reason, but have you no shame either?
It’s a sad day for these people, don’t use it as a vehicle to spread for your nutty political ideas.
What a huge loss. Wildland hotshots are the Navy Seals of fire fighters. They’re the best of the best and trained to fight fires in some of the most unimaginable conditions. Condolences to the families of these courageous men.
Very Sad.
shame on you macman because you see the tree and not the wood.
syrian al quaeda have bulletproof vests but firefighters dont have proper fireprevention uniforms because you and all to your similar ideology people were screaming like monkeys to release money for war war war forgetting the internal issues.moreover obama is mourning for mandella right now ,a proof that everything is going wrong in states.
To the men and women who selflessly give of themselves for their communities. I salute you. I empathize with your sacrifice and loss.
God bless them
MacMan..well said. Pay no attention to the idiots. As a resident of Arizona..my heart goes out to the families of the brave men we lost today.
While the legions of brainless sheep worship and idolize ball players, actors, singers, etc., the real heroes in this world go and risk their lives every day. May those brave souls rest in peace.
Is there such a thing as global warming?
@sciencephd & @ALALAYIIIAAAA:
Have you two incompetents no shame? How does this in any way relate to the President’s tour of Africa or Syria? There is a process called common sense and I guess you become more acquainted with it.
Play with fire, get burned. Still, it’s sad that these men who were trying to save trees, animals, human lives and homes fell victim to this harsh reality.
RIP…..they are called the Bravest for a reason.
“Play with fire, get burned”? Seriously? You get my vote for 3rd most moronic statement here. Right behind sciencephf and ALALAYIIAAA.
First and foremost, thoughts and wishes to the fallen Wildland Firefighters and their families!
Ty MacMan and xyz2055, as a former Wildland Firefighter for Mendocino Forest who was burned over in Arizon myself (San Francisco Mtns.) along with my whole crew, of whom all survived but had many minor injuries and 1 critical, we appreciate yours and others thoughts and prayers. What we don’t care for is the BS from people who try to turn this political. Obama won, get behind the president and support! You want change, then get your party to get behind someone who is not a dingbat and next election go for it. Someone you believe in, not just throw as many people up as you can hoping that one will beat Obama. Which won’t be an issue for you anyways!

God rest their souls. This is tragically sad. They should be honored for their supreme sacrifice.
As a retired firefighter I know how hard these men and women work at their career. To be a member of an elite hotshot team they must have a level of dedication to their work and the people they are protecting that is rare today. Now their families especially will suffer a terrible loss and we will loose true courageous combatants for our wildlands.
What a tragedy.. hope some greater good comes out of this in terms of reinforeced safety equipment, procedures and other to prevent such loss in future.
@Marla,
I pray that your home never catches on fire because if it does, someone will have to “play” with that fire. By the way, that was the dumbest comment on this list. Congratulations.
Desperately sad. My sympathy to their families and to the community. I hope they know that they are in peoples prayers and thoughts and will be supported through this and beyond. We lost 343 firefighters here in NYC on 9/11 and that was in a huge city, this loss is equally devastating for Prescott.
This was my home for many years and my prayers and love go out to all the brave men lost in this fire!
“Young Men and Fire” by Norman MacLean gives one a sense of what such an event is like.
This is heartbreaking. Just heartbreaking. God bless their souls.
agreed, MacMan. Ick.
agreed, MacMan. Ick.
RIP brothers your service wont be turned to ash. Your names will be placed on our fire board and the flags will be put at half staff. Wildland guys share a bond that is unlike anything in the fire service. Your the first line and last line off attack for the forestry service. Its a job few do and for some reason we keep coming back to it. My thoughts are prays are with your wife and children that watched daddy walk out that door to dance with the devil and wont return. God bless and thank you guys!

I would hope that people realize that there is nothing SAFE about fire fighting and that these 19 firefighters died protecting something that didn’t even belong to them and if they had lived to retire the cities and counties would have forgotten them.
We are not supposed to live in the desert (or on flood plains, like lowlands around the Gulf). Its unnatural as it is unsustainable. Nature has a way of equalizing excess. These brave souls died (ultimately) for water depletion and a hugely unbalanced and unsustainable way of life. The water drain from the explosive growth in Phoenix and Las Vegas cannot be replaced, cheap housing in the desert is going to further damage the environment, line the pockets of a few investors, and when the water is gone, the mass migration to wetter areas will commence. We need to take care of this now, the costs are mounting. How many more lives of our best are going top be spent defending a way of life and properties that will be abandoned within a generation. Nature’s fury has just begun, or is there still deniers after 119°F? Its going to get hotter and drier. Bless these individuals for putting themselves in harms way to protect others. We owe it to them to be responsible, the desert is not for cities and wet farming. Its a desert.
This shocked me. I can’t imagine what their family, friends and their town are going through but my heart and prayers go out to all of them.
They were Firemen, and the went the hard way – even if the lamesteam media wants to de-genderize them in death.
Some Departments give awards and medals for heroism to members, others (like mine back in the day) say the only medal you get is the Badge…
And putting it on is the only act of heroism that really matters, the rest is just follow up on a promise.
And Sometimes the promise is redeemed the hard way… So Go Easy Brothers – You are Not Alone.

Why take such risk to fight these fires? Evacuate and rescue people and protect property as best as you can, then get out. The fires will eventually burn out.
#trapp416- While your rant on building in the desert may have some merit this is the wrong forum to bring up the subject as Yarnell has an elevation over 4600 ft. Let’s stay on topic. Less 20/20 hindsight. It was a tragic loss pure and simple.
May be we should figure out how to use drones to bomb out perimeter of the fire.
