Insight: Fast-growing U.S. craft brewers struggle with worker safety
if you think minimizing deaths-per-volume-of-beer is the point of craft brewing, you’ve kinda missed the point.
This issue sounds similar to that of comparing family farms with large industrial operations. Farming is dangerous business — with many risks of being injured by machinery, often while working alone. The typical small-operation farm doesn’t have the resources to invest in a lot of safety training and practices. A craft brewery is similar in many respects.
Come to Texas, we have fewer regulations….
This issue is not similar to comparing family farms with large industrial operations. Apples and oranges. First, the investment of safety and practices is required by state if working in and around acids and gasses and training is available through contacting OSHA. The resources to provide this education and training in an environment encompassing these acids, gasses, high temps and large equipment should be important. Using the excuse of lack of resources is comparable to saying the life of your spouse is simply “collateral damage” in an industry where we are looking to make a quick buck.
