Pardon my cynicism, but it’s fair to say the only reason this woman is in the news is because she is telegenic. I’m sure there were other teachers that performed admirably that day that don’t get so much as a whisper of recognition or gratitude.

On a second note – anyone else sick of annual commemorations? It’s truly meaningless honestly. The sad truth is that this tragedy wasn’t enough to shake America out of it’s gun fanaticism (probably actually strengthened the resolve of pro-gun people) so it is the definition of a crisis wasted. If the mass-murder of six and seven year olds can’t sway opinion, nothing can… maybe if it was Lady Gaga or some other pop-culture nightmare *cough cough* I mean icon *cough cough* then people would take notice for more than a few days and for a few minutes on the anniversary.

the children and instructors in this massacre are already failed once, when a supposedly ‘peaceable’ nation coalesced around accessibility to weapons such as those that killed them – and would sweep their memory under the rug while enjoying Christmas with their own

God Bless the Parents and the Survivors of this tragedy. My heart goes out to them all! Having said that, we as a Nation have to realize that Guns are not to blame! In all of these cases of mass shootings there were serious red flags about the Mental deteriation of the shooters! Those around them that could have done something did not do the responsible thing! In Sandy Hook’s case the Mother actually bought the guns and had them redially available for the shooter to use! All shooting’s were in Gun Free Zones also. It is time to use some logic where Gun Violence is concerned. Let’s hold people responsible not guns!

The sad truth is that Mrs. Lanza was just as insane as her deranged son. If your angry, reclusive kid is obsessed with violence and violent video games, you DO NOT go out and buy him an arsenal of guns and ammo to play with. She should have never had guns in the house, or if she did, they should have been locked up in a gun safe, and DO NOT give your psycho kid the combination!

Personally, I hate euphonisms. “Bathroom” is just about the limit. “It was too small to hold a sink” never mind a bath.
What to call it? “Euphonism” wouldn’t be bad! The French “l’eau” > Loo is nice and clipped.

Guns, or if you prefer, weapons, may not be the problem. But weapons with multi round clips that allow someone like these shooters to kill multiple people in a matter of minutes is insane. Let everyone have a six shooter. If you want to shoot assault weapons, join the military or be a for hire soldier for Blackwater or someone. The problem is that most that scream ‘don’t touch my guns’ the loudest wouldn’t pass the mental or physical tests required to be part of a real ‘well regulated militia’.
