“When I arrived here seven years ago one of the first things I was told is that this whole question of clerical sexual abuse had been taken care of. Unfortunately I believed that.”

Essentially Archbishop Nienstedt is saying that he is responsible, but some other, unidentified, shadowy, person, who lied to him, is the actual culprit. Who is Nienstedt trying to throw under the bus, his predecessor Archbishop Flynn, or Archbishop Flynn’s Canon, Fr. Kevin McDonough? I ask, because I’m not buying what Archbishop Nienstedt is peddling. Both Flynn and McDonough labored long and hard to right the wrongs and heal the wounds caused by child sexual abuse.
