As we comment, “undocumented immigrants” are already infiltrating the group of 1,058 candidates….and why not? Who will do all the low paying jobs on Mars if they aren’t there?

@BenVincent, to quote you ‘Let’s hope they are all liberals.’ More then likely they would be, as liberals are more interested in actual Science then what conservatives have become.

Why JUST Ted Cruz? Why not the entire 113th United States Congress? The greatest failures in American history.

Why? What’s the point? Year-round temperatures of -29°C is not conducive to long-term habitation. Senseless fantasy of people with too much time on their hands. Let the scientists who want credit for placing a human colony on Mars to be the first to go.

That’s the difference between you and people who wish to expand the boundaries of human experience. Enjoy your Duck Dynasty, Cheetos and Lazy Boy…the adults are going to work.

grebrew56. I am sorry to say but it’s obvious that this experiment is not to expand the boundaries of human experience and more like the Duck Dynasty series, the promoters are already trying to do a reality show, more like the Dynasty. If you think this experiment has anything to offer to humans then i suspect you are one of those people who will say yes to anything that has the label science on it,regardless of whether it is in fact science or not. So, we know nothing about the planet, except that maybe there was life and water and yet, we are going to send people there to live without the possibility of coming back? have you even thought through the whole thing? What happens when someone gets sick? And who are these people going there, trained astronauts?

It’s obvious that the applicants were scammed. A manned mission to Mars cannot take place for at least another 100 years because of the numerous technical, propulsion, waste management, food, water, bathing, psychological, sociological, and exercise/gravitational problems that need to be resolved. Not to mention the huge, complex, and powerful spacecraft that will need to be designed to accommodate such a large number of people.
