The world is heading down a very dark path, and it will end very badly indeed.

Russia assures world “you will be safe.” Just don’t move the wrong way, sing the wrong thing…. or be gay. Or a billionaire. List will update every 24 hours, and violators will be shot :)

@Dron – Don’t be serious, Mr. Gumpy. Try this headline:

Yay?

I’ll “betcha’” that security will be the best at the Winter Olympics that it has ever been anywhere in the world. Putin and Russia are betting on it and anyone, anyone who looks the slightest suspicious will not be in Sochi for long. Maybe too stringent by western standards but the Russians know how to handle this. Not with kid gloves but with a mailed fist. It WILL be secure. Go get ‘em Vlad.

In the late 1960s, I had the pleasure of visiting parts of Europe including Budapest (while still under Soviet control). It WAS THE only city in which I felt totally secure. Dictatorship? sure. Listening to everyone? Sure, so does the NSA, CIA and company. Police state? You betcha.’ But not as many video screens on every street corner as in the U.S. (Not then). Shoot protesters? Yes, just like the U.S. National Guard in a college in Ohio. Don’t complain about security if you want to feel safe all the time. If you don’t think we are approaching that, go to an airport sometime and get “felt up” by a nasty TSA man because as a person in a wheelchair with a cane, I didn’t have the foresight in advance to tell people I had a hip pin. Want to talk about security. Try Israel and they still have bomb attacks, but their airlines don’t get bombs in them and run into buildings. When you pay for security as a result of terrorists, you lose freedom. That’s the nature of security. This from an left-leaning independent living in a blue state.

I wonder if those people trashing the Russians would say if the Muslim Insurgents killed people at Sochi? It’s the fault of the Russians for not having better security. Like those people who blame Obama for the Polar Vortex.
