out of the 2.2 billion “followers” only the Lord knows how many are true Christians versus in name only. the persecution and decaying of morals/ethics and just plain decency will only increase as this age comes to a close and The Lord Jesus Christ returns to save us from destroying ourselves. a few relevant passages of Scripture speaking of the time right before the end. tell me this isn’t what we’re seeing today.

“In the last days people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.” – 2 Timothy 3:2-5

“Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?” Jesus replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. 9 When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.” Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. “But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. And so you will bear testimony to me. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 Stand firm, and you will win life.” – Luke 21:7-19

This has been on going for some time. It’s interesting that it is now a news item. It is time for the media to start seeing the negative sides of Islam and reporting them more consistently. But Islam is to be feared, so such reports are minimized or absent—meanwhile, back in the killing fields…

You reap what you sow Christians, your hands are not free of blood. Remember what you did with things like the Inquisition and the Crusades. What comes around goes around. Religions of all types have always been going after each other since humans thought up the false concept of a god.

‘My god is better then your god’
‘No mine is’
‘No mine is’
etc….., like little children.

If modern innocents should expect no sympathy for their persecution because of the actions of others in completely different times and places of their sect (which has also created countless schools and hospitals, charities and refuges for the unfortunate), then the anti-religious in general should be expecting something really special to make up for Hitler, Mao, Stalin, and all the Fritz Haber types who litter history as well.

@chris_n, my point was simply that religions are fighting religious wars, that is what they have been doing for thousands of years. Nothing new here.

“About 10 percent of Syrians are Christians. Many have become targets for Islamist rebels who see them as supporters of President Bashar al-Assad.”
Not correct. Christians are targets because they are Christians. Same thing in Iraq after the US invasion. The Islamist “rebels” who are getting US/Nato support in Syria, Libya etc want to ban all other religions, introduce sharia law. There ideal is Saudi Arabia, which together with Israel is the most important US ally in the area and the main provider of money and terrorists for 9/11.

@USAPragmatist…As with many atheists (I don’t know if you are one) you pull out the myth that religions cause wars. The fact is that 98% (an actual studied figure) of all wars are caused by politics, pursuit of power, wealth, and conquest of land and natural resources, period. The Crusades, by the way, were a “reaction” to Islams treatment of Christians. The negative reputation of the Crusades is largely due to propaganda from the reformation and rise of secular forces that needs to tarnish the Catholic church. Likewise with the Inquisition. Read Peters( university of Penn) Kamen University of Madrid and others who write factually about the Inquisition and you ‘ll find its reputation over-blown. one author actually compares it the the post 911 US with Guantanamo and “enhanced interrogations”. But you knew all this, right?
