OK, this happens all over the world. It is not peculiar to China. The framing of the headline suggests that unwanted babies in China are simply abandoned but the story shows how efforts are made to accommodate those who do so in order to save the newborn’s life. In Old China children were frequently abandoned because families could not afford to have them, or they were sold into bondage or prostitution. As this story states 10,000 newborns were received by orphanages last year a very small number given the size of China’s population. It seems that China is doing more than most countries to try and save abandoned newborns. Why doesn’t the headline state “China makes efforts to save abandoned newborns.” It would better reflect the true story.
