Lawmakers call NFL on Redskins name: it's an insult, not honor

Comments (20)

The decision whether using a Native American logo, likeness, name etc. should be left entirely to the Indian Council in the area. It’s their name, their likeness, etc., and only they can know if it’s an honor or not. And, what right does the NFL have to just usurp a tribe’s logo or likeness?

Of course the name is an insult. Everyone knows it is. Only the people who make money
on it such as the team, vendors, etc want it to stay the name.

Next these idiots will try to get the Browns name changed or horse lovers will object to the Broncos name. When will Norway start objecting to the Vikings? Will the Pope get mad a New Orleans, etc.

Just one more example of how well our Congressmen use their time in another non-productive way. Trying to catch “headlines” for an issue that isn’t an issue for the vase majority of Americans, including our Native Americans. No wonder our Washington politicians have their lowest approval ratings in history!!!

For years the U.S. government screwed the native American, now they are worried about a football teams name. Yes, that is the Number One problem facing today’s native Americans, Once the name is changed, native American will be in Shangri-La, hypocrites.

Next we need to target Red Man chewing tobacco. The name and the logo are just as offensive as the Washington Football Team’s. Then we target the rapper who promotes himself as “Redman”. He doesn’t look Native American to me…and finally, we go after King Yellowman of Carib-Reggae fame. Yellow Man is an insult to Asians.

Can the idiocy and stupidity of people never be capped? Where is any native American to weigh in on this, or would that be too much to ask?

well, I have the answer to all this BS. First of all, the Redskins can be called NFL team #1, the Packers NFL team #2, the Broncos NFL team #3, etc, etc, etc. Gee people get over it

They should call their team the “Rednecks” and then they can defend all the honor they want.

If Goodell thinks ‘Redskins’ is a nickname full of honor why does he keep using the term ‘Native Americans’ instead?

There is very little left to remind us of them now so why not scrub the last few mentions of their civilization away so we can move on. If they want to be forgotten then let them be. They have huge rates of teen pregnancy, illiteracy and alcoholism in their communities now…maybe they should be focusing on the causes of that as I’m fairly certain the name of a sports team is not behind any of those issues, and if it is all problems solved…course, my guess is they’ll complain and blame something else once this fight is done.

How about doing your jobs before you go telling the NFL & it’s owners how to run their business. Seems to me the NFL is run better and far more profitable than the US Federal Government.
