Fibromyalgia is not a homogeneous condition. It may not even be a disease in its own right. The diagnostics are messy, there is no biomarker and the diagnosis has widened to include anyone with widespread pain. About 40% of people with ME fit the criteria for fibromyalgia. It is also diagnosed as a co-morbidity in MS, Parkinsons disease, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. All of these illnesses have disturbed sleep. We need to tidy up the diagnostics before we make such associations. In addition much more work is needed on the immunological variables which are likely to be the key underlying causes of the symptoms in many.
