ALONE AND FRIGHTENED – Being Gay in Uganda
Since that bill was passed, the police has been acting on any anonymous tips to arrest anyone suspected to be gay.

All that someone has to do is walk into there nearest police station and tell them so and so is gay and they will promptly arrest the suspect weather the allegations are true or false. The media will be called in immediately – down the drain your life goes.

Among the clauses in that law – ‘Anyone who does not report a gay person is liable to over 5years in jail’ – what does that mean? People will simply act on speculation
hence a possibility of arresting and imprisoning innocent people and people like me cannot open up to a doctor because there will be no patient – doctor confidentiality anymore.

Also, among the proposals is to deny bail to SUSPECTED gay people. (One thing am sure about is that this will affect even the many homophobes and can also be used for black mail. a person simply says so and so is gay and they will be put away as the good police does its investigations……that can take as long as the person accusing u deems fit.)

My Life:
I am 27years old now and a graduate.
Since i was a little boy i have always felt comfortable around boys being the 3rd child in a family of 5 boys and 2 girls. growing up in a very poor neighborhood.

I have grown up to this age with no girl (cissy) like tendencies throughout my life and no one (my family and friends) think am gay.

I have fought so hard to suppress these feelings all my life for fear of being dis-owned by my family and friends and worse still ending up in jail, but the fact is i cannot pretend all my life – so they will know.

As a teenager, i tried dating girls but this never worked out, all my girlfriends some how realized that our relationships were simply cosmetic/unreal (i never really gave them full attention since i enjoyed hanging out mostly with fellow boys and didn’t spend quality time with them. I have not had a stable girlfriend all my life to date but now at this age, am expected to have a girl friend if not married but am still single and not really searching for a marriage partner.

I grew up a God fearing boy but always had this thing for boys and had secret crushes on fellow boys throughout but could never bring my self to tell them how i felt. i thought i would outgrow these abnormal feelings but seems like as i grew older the feelings became stronger.

I have gone to church, especially pentecostal (born again) churches prayed and fasted hoping that someday i will wake up when am straight and normal like everyone else but this just never happens.
I cannot confess my sexuality to the pastors for fear of being the topic in their next Sunday morning summon.

In this country, gay people are seen as insane, worse than cockroaches, stupid and any other demeaning reference one can come up with all because people like me are not attracted to the opposite sex like everyone else.

But, where do i go for help? -
Church – All religious leaders in the country are at the for-front and pushing so hard for the president to sign the bill into law despite all the in-humane clauses in that bill – the bill had suggested a death sentence for aggravated offenders. In other words gay people will bring Gods Judgement on the country (remember Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible) and don’t deserve to be among Gods holly people – Straight people or in God’s holly country Uganda hence we should be taken care of immediately.
But the in the Bible – New testament Jesus welcomed all sinners and those considered unclean/un-worthy by the people, he preached love and not hate, but our religious leaders (the holy ones – Pastor Ssempa, Pastor Serwadda Joseph preach hate, life imprisonment or death to gay people – people like me.
Hence, if i cannot find love and solace in the house of God, where do i run in this homophobic and conservative country?

I have thought about ending my life several times, after all, who cares?, even God
hates me so ending it all will take me straight to hell where i belong and this country would be one gay person less such that the holy ones (straight) remain.

Back to the question, where do i go for help? – since they believe am sick.
- Professional counseling – The new law if signed, demands that anyone who doesn’t report a gay person is liable to imprisonment for over 5 years. Going for professional help is like walking yourself to the police station with the smoking gun in your hands.

- Check into a Mental Hospital – There is a mental hospital called Butabika hospital specially built for the insane. Since majority of Ugandans think that people like me are insane – i really hope that my sexuality can be cured as well such that i come out straight like everyone else.

Jan 17th 2014 – One of the leading daily new papers report that the president was quoted saying that gay people are sick and need help. But where do we go for help? and we will not be looked at as dirt or vile?, who can i trust when everyone thinks i deserve to be killed on site or locked away for life?

If this bill is signed into law, i officially become an outcast with no place in a country that i love so much. i love this country so much i had never applied for a passport because i felt so much at home and also had not considered traveling out of this country in the near future unless an opportunity presented its self or my employer sent me.

I have chosen to live a single life because i don’t want to pretend am in love with a girl and yet i wake up everyday wishing she was dead or got involved in a nasty car accident. i feel true love should not be forced, why should i pretend or be forced to live with someone i don’t love and have no feelings for just because i have to be culturally correct and please my parents and the public?, why cant i be with someone i love as long as we are both adults?. I do not support people who involve themselves sexually with under age boys because they are still young and cannot decide for them selves, i feel this is wrong even if your straight or gay and as much as am gay, i don’t support gay marriage.

I ask my self, Why am i like this???? – why am i not like everyone else?, they say being gay is a western thing, that its a white mans thing, that came from Europe and America.
I have grown up and lived in Uganda all my life, i have never had any white male/female friends to influence me. How then did America or Europe make me into the person i am?

When am taken to court today, it will be the whole country including Jesus against me, i guess the only person on my side will be the devil.

The world has judged us and found guilty, there is not place for us. i hard some callers on radio on Sunday morning say that we deserve to be killed by firing squad, another caller said that they should use hammers (a few good strikes with a hammer on the head will be sufficient), i listen in quietly to peoples observations on radio, TV and at work its so frightening.

This means that people like me deserve no mercy whatsoever. Jesus didn’t die for people like me, we should be exterminated.
We are a minority, nothing that we say makes any sense to straight people, to them we deserve to die.

Gay people are just like any other person, and yet we have been portrayed to be monsters.
How do i tell you that am actually gay????????

I have decided to keep this to my self since the law empowers him to report me to police.

Dron, you’re a bit of a puzzle to me. You say you agree with foo that homosexuality is a “disability,” yet your first reaction to this news (assuming you weren’t being sarcastic yourself) was not to condemn it but to advocate anti-gay laws in “every country of Europe.” I’m curious as to which other “disabilities” you would penalize, and if you consider 14 years sufficient for a first offense?

Mr. Harvey could have named this speech ” If I were a Liberal”

Here’s the transcript of Paul Harvey’s “If I were the Devil” speech that was broadcast on April 3, 1965:

If I were the Devil, I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree. So I’d set about however necessary to take over the United States.
I’d submit the churches first. I’d begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do as you please.” To the young, I would whisper, “The Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what’s bad is good, and what’s good is “square.” And the old I would teach to pray after me, “Our Father, which art in Washington…”
And then I’d get organized. I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting. I’d threaten T.V. with dirtier movies and vice versa. I’d pedal narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.
If I were the Devil, I’d soon have families at war with themselves, churches at war with themselves, and nations at war with themselves until each in its turn was consumed. And with promises of higher ratings, I’d have mesmerizing media fanning the flames.
If I were the Devil, I would encourage schools to refine young intellects, but neglect to discipline emotions, just let those run wild, until before you knew it, you’d have to have drug-sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door.
Within the decade, I’d have prisons overflowing, I’d have judges promoting pornography, soon I could evict God from the courthouse, then from the schoolhouse, then from the houses of Congress.
And in His own Churches, I would substitute psychology for religion and deify science. I would lure priests and pastors into misusing boys and girls and church money.
If I were the Devil, I’d make the symbol of Easter, an egg, and the symbol of Christmas, a bottle.
If I were the devil, I would take from those who have and I would give to those who want it until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious.
And wouldn’t you bet I couldn’t get whole states to promote gambling as the way to get rich.
I would caution against extremes and hard work and patriotism and moral conduct. I would convince the young that marriage is old-fashioned, that swinging is more fun, that what you see on TV is the way to be. And thus I could undress you in public and I could lure you into bed with diseases for which there is no cure.
In other words, if I were the Devil, I’d just keep right on doing what he’s doing.
Paul Harvey, Good Day.

Gay people just want the same rights as anyone else – to be able to live, love, and be happy without having to fear persecution, violence, and now incarceration. My sister is a lesbian and is getting married to her wonderful girlfriend of many years this coming September, and the thought of her getting thrown in jail simply for expressing her love makes me sick to my stomach.

I also find it funny how the president “gave scientists a week” to come up with data that the scientific community at large has been looking for for literally decades. And by funny, I mean “sadly ironic.”

But there is no scientific basis or genetic rationale for love. There is only the grace of God. There is no scientific justification for prejudice and discrimination, ever. And nor is there any moral justification. Nazi Germany and apartheid South Africa, among others, attest to these facts.” — Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Homosexuals are not vermin, but it is perverse behaviour. Being homosexual is a choice, not a right and not genetically determined. Race is genetically controlled and, therefore, not a choice. Because the world is becoming more perverse and cannot tolerate the concept of boundaries to its naturally illicit behaviour.

Each of us has our own idea of what constitutes sexual perversion. For some, that includes any sex act (including masturbation) apart from vanilla penile-vaginal intercourse in the missionary position between two married adults. That’s somewhat prudish in my view, but I have no problem with it so long as they don’t attempt to lock people up for 14 years for doing something different, consensually, as adults, in the privacy of their bedrooms.

It’s disturbing how many commenters here are implicitly supporting laws that do what this law does. It’s as though they don’t even realize how easily it can and will be exploited by the powerful at the expense of the powerless. Or maybe they do, and are simply glad to be among the ranks of the former.

3 homosexual males have higher cognitive functions, verbal skills and spatial memory
4 some of the greatest geniuses in the history of our planet were homosexual males (Leonardo da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Tchaikovsky, Alan Turing, the inventor of modern computer science)
Apparently it’s a disability a lot of people would like to have! And, I’m sure Hitler, Charles Manson, and Mussolini’s parents were so proud they had heterosexual sons….

In case any vestigial support for the Obama regime is still detectible, the lesson here is clear. It has little or nothing to do with punishing or pampering homosexuals, a trivial issue at best. Rather, this is a perfect example of the price one pays for projecting impotence instead of power. For the Ugandans to thumb their noses at Kerry and his boss this way is an object lesson: Every time you mouth off and fail to follow up, you weaken your position for the future. Weakness invites not only aggression, but contempt. Thanks, Barack, you pathetic loser.
